Eric Trump's Remark About Donald Trump's 'Stamina' Sparks Mockery

Eric Trump, the son of former President Donald Trump, was mocked on social media on Sunday for praising his father's "stamina" amid is ongoing legal troubles.

In an interview on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo, Eric Trump insisted that his father was "feeling great" despite the various criminal prosecutions he is currently fighting.

The former president faces 88 criminal charges in four cases—two on the federal level and two on the state level—while he seeks reelection against Democratic incumbent President Joe Biden ahead of this year's presidential election.

Earlier this month, Trump became the first former president in U.S. history to stand trial in a criminal case. Following an investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office, the former was indicted in March 2023 on charges of falsifying business records relating to hush money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign. Daniels alleges that she had an affair with Trump in 2006, which he has denied. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and said the case is politically motivated.

"He is going all over the place. His stamina, Maria, I've never seen anything like it in my life," Eric Trump said on Sunday. "He'll be in trial all day long, relentlessly being attacked by a corrupt judge, only to step out and go do events at bodegas and wake up and speak to union workers...and go to Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio and all the swing states."

Social media users on X, formerly Twitter, chided the former president's son over his comments, noting Donald Trump's complaints about the "freezing" temperature in the courtroom and reports that he has dozed off during the trial in Manhattan.

Ron Filipkowski, a vocal Trump critic and editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch —wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "He cried the whole time about how hard it was to sit in court, he fell asleep repeatedly, complained how cold it was constantly, played golf last Sunday, played golf last Wednesday, played golf yesterday, and will play golf today. Maybe Trump can show us his stamina by running to the end of his driveway. Let's see how that goes."

Marcy Wheeler, a national security journalist who uses the online pseudonym Emptywheel, posted to X, "New Yorkers will be amused that nepo-kid's idea of stamina is stopping by a Bodega after a 7 hour day sitting on your [expletive] and a USSS [Secret Service] escort drive across town."

Earlier this month, the former president made a campaign stop at a New York City bodega where a clerk in 2022 fatally stabbed a customer in self-defense.

"They want law and order...every week they're being robbed," he said of businesses in the city, as he tried to compare his criminal prosecution with the state of New York streets while addressing the crowd and media outside the bodega, the Associated Press reported. "You know where the crime is? It's in the bodegas."

Meanwhile, some X users like Scott Immordino, countered Eric Trump by writing Sunday that his father hasn't regularly campaigned in recent months amid his myriad legal battles.

Newsweek reached out to Trump's campaign Sunday afternoon via email. This article will be updated with any provided statements.

Last weekend, the former president had to cancel a rally in North Carolina due to inclement weather. It would have been his first rally since his criminal hush money trial started.

Roughly 30 minutes before he was sent to appear, he called into the outdoor rally from his private jet and asked everyone to leave immediately due to safety concerns as lightning flashed overhead.

"I'm devastated that this could happen, but we want to keep everybody safe," Trump said. "It's the most important thing and we want everybody there to be 100 percent safe. There seems to be some thunder and lightning and it's a pretty big storm. So if you don't mind, I think we're gonna have to just do a rain check. I'm so sad."

The former president, meanwhile, is scheduled to visit Michigan and Wisconsin on Wednesday during a midweek break in his hush money trial.

"He's a remarkable human being, and I love him to death, and I'm proud of him," Eric Trump said Sunday during his Fox News interview. "The whole world knows his backbone and toughness and it's exactly who we need behind the Resolute desk and the exact person we need in the Oval Office."
