Internet Loves Sleeping Dachshund 'Dreaming About Great Things In His Life'

A pup called Karl has melted hearts all over the internet after his owner shared a video of him having the sweetest of all dreams.

The post shared on TikTok last Saturday, under the username leaagoe, shows the little dachshund mix dog, called Karl, enjoying a peaceful nap on the couch while moving his tail at the same time, as if something in his dreams was making him really happy.

The heartwarming clip comes with a caption that says: "Just my best friend dreaming about the great things in his life."

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), most vertebrates can and do have dreams on a regular basis.

However, as well as having dreams, dogs also have nightmares, and according to the AKC, while it may hurt to watch, you should avoid waking up your pup when this happens.

"If you've ever been woken from a scary dream, you know that it can take a minute to remember where you are and whom you are with. Like some people, dogs can react aggressively toward the person waking them," the club's website explained.

Newsweek previously looked into why dogs sleep so much and found out that for most dogs it's actually quite normal to sleep an average of 10 to 14 hours a day, and puppies can sleep anywhere from 18 to 20 hours.

While it's natural for dogs to sleep a lot, it can sometimes be a sign of something else. Ask for medical advice if they have difficulties waking up or staying asleep, or if you notice any other dramatic changes in your dog's sleeping habits.

The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received more than 1.5 million views and 323,400 likes on the platform.

One user, MoleMan wrote: "It melts my heart when my puppy wags her tail in her sleep! Just dreaming of us and probably chicken."

Mary Angeli said: "I read somewhere that it's likely dogs are dreaming about their owner! Face smell or even playing with you. So maybe he is dreaming about you."

Newsweek reached out to leaagoe for comment via TikTok chat.
