The 1975 Singer Matt Healy Eats Raw Meat Live on Stage — Fans Confused

Fans of the band The 1975 seemingly didn't know how to react to seeing the lead singer Matt Healy devour raw meat live on stage at Madison Square Garden.

Healy's onstage antics were captured in the Amazon Music event "Das Haus" (German for "The House"), in which The 1975's show was streamed live on Twitch. It will be repeated and aired again on November 8 at 1 p.m. ET.

The British band is known for songs "Chocolate," "Love Me" and "Me & You Together Song." Their 2016 album I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware of It reached the top of the Billboard 200, while each of the group's albums have reached No. 1 in the UK.

People aware of the band reacted with confusion when clips of Healy eating raw meat surfaced on social media.

"Mom Dad, why is Matty Healy eating raw meat at the 1975 show?!!" journalist Erica Campbell wrote, sharing a video of Healy on stage, eating raw meat off the bone while topless. She continued: "Idk if it's real meat also this was NOT my attempt at anti-1975 propaganda the show is genuinely good."

It was all seemingly part of a show in which Healy did multiple things in the stage house before the show started. Other viewers commented on how the lead singer seemingly touched himself during the performance too.

"Matty Healy eating a giant raw slab of meat on stage after touching himself was not where I expected the 1975 show to go but I guess I should have," wrote journalist Ilana Kaplan.

Twitter user @haylesus shared three still shots of Healy during the performance and shared their reaction. "Matty pretended to masturbate, do push ups and ate raw meat on stage and YET i'm not [surprised]."

"There is no way I could possibly explain to my 18-year-old self that I just watched Matty Healy grope himself onstage and eat a raw steak before crawling into a television," writer CT Jones posted on Twitter. This tweet and others caught the attention of Healy's mom, who got involved in the discussion. "I saw it too," Denise Welch confirmed.

Welch is an actress and TV personality in the UK with her own sizable Twitter following. She appears on the daytime talk show Loose Women, a U.K. equivalent of The View. She also shared her astonishment at her son's behavior.

After someone commented: "Rip to anyone going to this show with their parents," Welch responded: "What about when you ARE the parent!!!"

The band's latest album Being Funny in a Foreign Language is out now. Its North America tour continues for the next month, finishing with a performance in Pittsburgh on December 17.
