Nissan's best-selling sedan has had its looks and technology refreshed as part of a mid-generation upgrade. The 2023 Nissan Altima also gets a number of new options for buyers to choose from.
The Altima debuted in 1992. It is currently in its sixth generation, slotting between the smaller Nissan Sentra and larger Nissan Maxima in the company's lineup. The current iteration of the Altima made it way to market in 2019 and hasn't been changed much since that point. Until now.
Nissan makes the Altima for the North American market at its Canton, Mississippi plant.
The 2023 Nissan Altima comes in eight grades: S FWD, SV FWD, SV AWD, SR FWD, SR AWD, SL FWD, SL AWD and SR VC-Turbo FWD. It will go on sale this fall.

Fresh looks up front, especially for Altima SR
Designers have given the 2023 Nissan Altima a fresh face. The grille has a sportier design and the car adopts Nissan's new brand logo.
Nissan will sell the 2023 Altima in Scarlet Ember Tintcoat, Brilliant Silver Metallic, Gun Metallic, Super Black, Pearl White TriCoat, Glacier White, and Deep Blue Pearl exterior paint jobs, which are carryovers from the 2022 model year. Gray Sky Pearl and Garnett Pearl Metallic colors will join the roster for 2023.
The 2023 Nissan Altima SR gains a black chrome grille finish that highlights the trim level's unique grille design. LED headlights with integrated turn signals sit on the corners of the grille. A single panel moonroof is available.
New wheel designs add character
Four new aluminum-alloy wheel designs are being made available on the Altima. The base model Altima SV wears 17-inchers while the Altima SR, SL and SR VC-Turbo have 19-inch wheels.
There's a boatload of new safety features
All Altimas get Nissan's Safety Shield 360 technology for the 2023 model year. It provides front, side and rear safety monitoring and introduces intervention technologies designed with safety of those inside and outside the car in mind.
The Safety Shield 360 suite of technology includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and high bean assist.
Each Altima also gets intelligent forward collision warning and driver alertness monitoring. Traffic sign recognition and surround view monitor technology is available.
A big screen and new tech features join the party
Nissan has added a 12.3-inch high-definition infotainment touch screen to the dashboard of the Altima for the 2023 model year in select trim levels. The Altima is one of the first Nissan models to feature the new screen design though the size isn't new - it's the same size as the display in the Armada. The previous screen size maxed out at 8 inches.
In addition to the new screen, Nissan has refreshed the infotainment interface and added door-to-door navigation, tethered Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, a wireless smartphone charging pad and Wi-Fi hot spot. All those features are standard on Altima SL and SR VC-Turbo models, and available on Altima SV.
A nine-speaker Bose Premium Audio system, active noise cancellation technology, Amazon Alexa and NissanConnect Services are available. NissanConnect Services is powered by SiriusXM and requires a SiriusXM subscription, which is sold separately.
Nissan offers smartphone and smartwatch access features such as remote engine start/stop and remote door lock/unlock. Amazon Alexa Skills and Google Assistant Actions can control some NissanConnect features.
Altima gets Rogue and Pathfinder's driver assist system
Upmarket versions of the Altima get the second generation of Nissan ProPilot Assist. The driver assistance technology uses a forward-facing camera, forward-facing radar, sensors and an electronic control module to help the vehicle stay centered in the lane and a preset distance from the vehicle ahead of it, if that speed is below the set cruise control number.
ProPilot Assist is a hands-on-the-wheel technology that can also slow the vehicle to a stop and hold the vehicle in place during traffic jam conditions.
