AAA wants everyone to be safe while celebrating the new year, and is offering motorists free rides with its AAA Safe Ride program.

Motorists can be sure they will get a tow and a safe ride home from their New Year's Eve party whether they are a member of AAA or not.

"AAA reminds everyone to stay safe this year by designating a sober driver, calling a cab or arranging to stay with a friend before kicking off your holiday celebrations!" the association said in a statement.

While the program has begun in most states for the holiday season, Alabama, southern counties in California, Hawaii, New Mexico and Texas will begin today at 6 p.m. and run through tomorrow until 6 a.m., according to a statement from AAA.

People in the states that are participating in the program today are urged to call 800-222-4357 for assistance. For the southern counties in California, local motorists are urged to call 800-400-4222.

"We urge New Year's Eve revelers to have a sober ride home lined up before the ball drops," AAA Northern California spokesman Michael Blasky told KTVU in a statement.

States like Arizona, Montana, Nevada, Utah, northern parts of California and Anchorage, Alaska, will also have access to the program again after it was offered on Christmas Eve. Like most of the AAA Tipsy Tow program services, it will be offered at 6 p.m. on Monday night into 6 a.m. New Year's Day.

Some states offered the AAA safe ride service just before the holidays began. States like Florida, Georgia, Indiana (Fort Wayne and South Bend), Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennessee and Wisconsin were able to use the Tipsy Tow program from December 21 at 6 p.m. to New Year's Day at 6 a.m., according to a statement from AAA.

If you live in Montgomery County, Ohio, AAA is also offering a taxi ride program from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday. Those who wish to use the service should call 937-449-9999, according to a statement from AAA.

Ride-sharing apps also are offering people discounts. Beer distributor Miller Lite has teamed up with Uber for New Year's Eve and is offering $15 off rides in Chicago, Twin Cities and Milwaukee with the code MILLERTIME18. Uber's competitor, Lyft, has paired with Texas, Arizona, Chicago, Louisiana, Kentucky and Oregon for special deals to keep people safe while celebrating the new year.
