Adele Faces Backlash After Show Announcement

Adele fans are mad with the British singer after she revealed she would be postponing her Las Vegas residency.

The singer made the shocking announcement on social media, revealing she had been sick and it had "taken a toll" on her voice.

"Sadly I have to take a beat and pause my Vegas residency," she said of her shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The ten postponed shows all occur in March and are part of her residency that is due to run until June. Ticket holders have been assured they will be informed of rescheduled shows "asap."

"Sadly I have to take a beat and pause my Vegas residency," Adele's post read.

"I was sick at the end of my last leg and all the way through my break," she added referring to the 2023 part of her residency that wrapped up in November.

"I hadn't quite gotten the chance to get back to health before shows resumed and now I'm sick again, and unfortunately it's all taken a toll on my voice.

"And so on doctor's orders, I have no choice but to rest thoroughly."

Adele said the remaining five weeks of "this leg" of the residency would also be rescheduled.

"I love you, I'll miss you like mad and I'm sorry for the inconvenience x" Adele captioned the posts on Instagram and X, formerly Twitter.

While many fans rushed to send messages of support to the singer and encouraging her to rest in order to regain her strength, others complained about the announcement.

Newsweek contacted Adele's management by email for comment.

"damn sad to hear, now were traveling to vegas for no reason. Can't cancel or flight or hotel," wrote one person on X.

Another added: "As an Australian ticket holder I may have just lost $4,000AUS because it's postponed I don't get a refund. I can't make the new show. 2nd of March ticket holder here."

And a third wrote: "Really disappointing, was suppose to fly out tomorrow for the Friday show. Losing hundreds of dollars for last minute cancellations of everything. Hope you feel better soon, but this truly ruined our weekend and cost us so much. To not allow refunds is also veryyy sketchy. 😔"

Adele previously postponed the start of her Las Vegas residency in 2022 because the "show ain't ready," she told fans in an emotional statement.

"It was the worst moment in my career, by far. By far. I was so excited about those shows. It was devastating," she said in an interview with Elle at the time.

"There was just no soul in it. The stage setup wasn't right. It was very disconnected from me and my band, and it lacked intimacy. And maybe I tried too hard to give it those things in such a controlled environment."

Adele has also cancelled or postponed shows due to vocal strain including in 2017 when she had to pull the pin on her Wembley Stadium shows in London.

"I've struggled vocally both nights," she wrote on social media. "I had to push a lot harder than I normally do. I felt like I constantly had to clear my throat."

"To say I'm heart broken would be a complete understatement."

In 2011, Adele underwent high-risk vocal cord microsurgery after suffering haemorrhage to her vocal cords when singing live on French radio.

"[It was] like someone put a curtain over my throat...and I could feel it. It felt like something popped in my throat," Adele told 60 Minutes in 2012.

Despite having surgery Adele is still at risk of injuring her vocal cords again.

"If I decide to go on a 200-date world tour, it would happen again," she explained.
