A group of friends who rented a property on AirBnb were shocked to discover a corpse in the garden this weekend.

The group had found the house in the town of Palaiseau, 17km south of Paris, on the popular room sharing site, and discovered the decomposing body of a woman on Saturday, AFP reported.

A police source said the woman was "hunched in a dug-out area, her head against the ground, covered in branches and surrounded by wood stumps."

She had no shoes on, and wore a "ring with a large stone."

The renters were being questioned by police on Sunday.

An autopsy is to be carried out, as the body's advanced state of decomposition made establishing the cause of death impossible.
