Exclusive: New Alec Baldwin Video Sheds Light on Clash With Protester

New footage of Alec Baldwin being confronted in public by a supporter of Palestinian people has been shared exclusively with Newsweek, shedding further light on the incident.

On Monday, performance artist Crackhead Barney, who has declined to share her real name, shared footage of herself repeatedly shouting at the screen star to say "Free Palestine" in order to be left alone. "Alec, can you please say 'Free Palestine' one time?" Barney said.

In further footage shared with Newsweek on Tuesday, Baldwin is seen walking into Maman café in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City at around 4:45 p.m. on Monday as Barney approaches him outside the building.

"Mr. Baldwin, say 'Free Palestine,'" Barney, who is known for her ambush interview style, told the actor. "Can you say, 'Free Palestine?'"

As Barney followed him into the café, Baldwin told her: "No, don't do that. This is a private business."

"You've got to go," Baldwin added, as he opened the eatery's door, appearing to usher for Barney to make her exit.

Looking toward a staffer behind the counter, Baldwin asked: "Could you help me?"

"Just say 'Free Palestine' one time, and I'll leave," Barney reiterated.

"Let's call the police," Baldwin said to the staffer, as he walked deeper into the café with his phone in hand.

In a statement, Barney, who accused Baldwin of eventually locking her out of the café, told Newsweek that the purpose of the confrontation was to highlight the entertainment industry being "largely silent" on Israel's ongoing war with Hamas.

"My performance art and confrontational media is a statement about the double standards of society in the U.S.," Barney said. "As the U.S. supports Israel in the genocide of Palestinians, here at home powerful people maintain a facade of politeness and dignity while we export death and terror around the world.

"Amid mass protests and public calls for an end to U.S. support of Israel, the entertainment industry has been largely silent, and in some cases, even supportive of Israel's genocide. This cannot stand, and people deserve to be confronted with the horrors our nation funds and supports. I stand with the movement for Palestinian liberation and the end of the apartheid state of Israel as we know it. Free Palestine, end the occupation, end the settlements, and end U.S. Imperialism."

Newsweek has contacted representatives of Baldwin and Maman via email for comment.

In the footage that had previously been shared on social media by Barney, Baldwin was seen being confronted about the death of Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin has maintained that he unknowingly held a loaded gun on the set of Rust, a film in which he starred and served as a producer. The gun discharged on the Western's set near Santa Fe, New Mexico, on October 21, 2021. Hutchins, 42, was killed, and writer-director Joel Souza was injured.

Baldwin has denied pulling the trigger. However, the star has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and is awaiting trial, currently scheduled for July. Last week, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed received an 18-month prison sentence after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter over the shooting.

"Why did you kill that lady? You killed that lady and got no jail time?" Barney said. "No jail time, Alec. You're putting innocent people in jail, Alec Baldwin."

"You know he's a f****** criminal," Barney said to the staff member, who had earlier unsuccessfully attempted to usher her out of the store.

"Come on, Alec, just say 'Free Palestine' one time, please … and I'll leave you alone," the person continued. "Free Palestine. F*** Israel. F*** Zionism. Please say it. One time."

As the seconds-long footage drew to a close, Baldwin said: "Could you do me one quick favor?" The actor then appeared to shove the camera away as the clip cut. According to a representative of Barney, Baldwin then locked her out of the café.

Footage of the confrontation was shared on X, formerly Twitter, where Barney added the caption: "White devil Alec Baldwin attacked me. While I was trying to get [coffee]."

The post was fact-checked by a community note, which is a small blurb below a post that gives readers added context and typically disputes an X user's claims.

"The person filming this video was not 'trying to get coffee,'" the update read. "They repeatedly and viciously harassed Alec Baldwin and refused to leave the establishment when asked to by the staff. There is also no evidence they were attacked."

Israel and Hamas have been locked in a war after the Palestinian militant group attacked southern Israel in October. Much of Gaza has since been razed in subsequent strikes from Israel, with huge numbers of the Strip's 2.3 million residents forced to flee their homes.

Gaza health officials estimate that more than 33,000 Palestinians have been killed since Israel embarked on retaliatory strikes, and Israeli officials say that roughly 1,200 people were killed in the initial Hamas attacks, during which a further 253 were taken hostage.

The White House has become increasingly critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's military response in the Gaza Strip. Israel has also faced pressure from the international community, as several celebrities have spoken out on the conflict while others have opted to forgo public discussion of the matter.
