Who Stars in All Quiet On The Western Front?

All Quiet On The Western Front mainly features an all-German cast, led by Felix Kammerer.

Newcomer Kammerer plays the role of Paul Bäumer, who lies about his age so he can enlist in the German army alongside his friends. However, he and his friends quickly realize war is not all it seems, and they not only have to fight their enemies but fight to survive.

Spanish-German actor Daniel Brühl portrays Matthias Erzberger, a German writer and politician. In 1918, he was the representative of the Reich government who signed the armistice between Germany and the Allied Powers, bringing an end to the war.

Audiences may recognize Brühl from his role as Alexander Kerner in Good Bye, Lenin! Fredrick Zoller in Inglorious Bastards and Niki Lauda in the biograpical film Rush.

He also portrays Helmut Zemo in Captain America: Civil War and the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He is also well known for playing Dr. László Kreizler in The Alienist.

What Is All Quiet On The Western Front About?

All Quiet On The Western Front is a German war epic, following the gripping story of Paul Bäumer, a young German soldier fighting in the trenches on the Western Front of World War I.

Paul and his friends sign up under the illusion they will be heroes for fighting in the war only to be met with the true horror of trench warfare.

The movie follows Paul and his comrades as they fight to survive, shining a light on the horrible atrocities and major loss of life during World War I, as well as the soldier's extremely physical and mental stress.

The movie is an adaptation of the world-renowned and best-selling novel of the same name by German author Erich Maria Remarque, which was published in 1929.

It has been made into a film on two occasions, in 1930 and 1979. However, this is the first German-language adaptation and director Edward Berger has made a few changes to the story.

For example, Berger has decided to include the story of Matthias Erzberger, the German politician who fought for an end to war.

Footage then appears of piles of coffins and shoes being gathered in the trenches, before flashing back to Paul and his friends signing up to serve their country.

Soon, Paul and his comrades are exposed to the horrors of war and are seen being ambushed by the enemy.

As the trailer comes to an end, Brühl as Matthias Erzberger is seen asking the French for a ceasefire as soldiers continue to fight, on the Western front.
