Amazon Worker Hilariously Leaves Their Own 'Movie Review' in DVD Order

An unexpected note from an Amazon worker has captured viral attention this week after a customer shared the package they received on Reddit.

Deshende lives in rural Ohio and ordered a copy of the 2016 movie Your Name directed by Makoto Shinkai for his father, but it arrived with an unexpected addition.

In the post with over 45,000 upvotes, Deshende said "Amazon worker left a movie review with my order," alongside a picture of the Blu-ray and DVD combo pack and a scrawled note that read: "Movie was good. I cried!"

Your Name has won 16 awards, including Most Popular Film at the 2017 Japanese Academy Awards.

"I purchased the movie on a whim for my dad," Deshende told Newsweek. "He will often comment on movies he enjoys that are thought provoking and well written. He's not an anime fan but I was taking a gamble that he'd like it so purchased it for him as a gift for his upcoming birthday."

A self-confessed Reddit "lurker," Deshende only posted the story on the popular site because sharing it on Facebook may have given away the surprise for his father.

After purchasing the movie as part of a Black Friday order, the shopper didn't notice the note until it was time to clear things away. "When I was cleaning up boxes and packaging, I noticed the slip of paper on the ground and when I picked it up, I was surprised to see handwriting on it," said Deshende. "Once I realized it was in reference to the Your Name movie it put a big smile on my face. I thought it was a fun thing for the Amazon worker to do since the movie does usually bring out strong emotions."

On Reddit in over 1,000 comments, users agreed with the worker's movie review.

"Can confirm, cried too," said one commenter. While another wrote: "That's pretty cool."

"I watched this on the plane and everyone around me was concerned as I ugly cried in my cramped aisle seat," said another Redditor.

Shocked that the post had gained such viral attention on Reddit, Deshende also shared concern for the Amazon worker getting into trouble for the note.

"My biggest worry is that whoever at Amazon put the note in my order would get punished for it. I'd hate to get someone punished for trying to put some positivity out in the world," he said.

"I enjoyed that the thread prompted discussions on the movie itself, movie suggestions for people that liked Your Name, discussions about what movies gave people the most cathartic cries, and also people pointing out the humanity of someone taking the time to write out the note in the middle of a busy day," said Deshende. "Thanks to the Amazon worker that put a little positivity out to the world that day."
