Amber Alert Issued in New York for 14 Month Old Believed to Be in 'Imminent Danger' After Mother's Body Found

An Amber Alert was issued in New York Friday morning for a 14-month-old child police believed to be in "imminent danger." Owen Hidalgo Calderon was last seen May 16, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The boy disappeared from Sodus, a town in upstate New York some 36 miles east of Rochester.

"The child was taken under circumstances that lead [sic] police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious physical harm or death," the Amber Alert said.

The child was described as 2 feet tall and 30 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is known to need asthma medication. It was unclear what clothing the child was last seen wearing.

Police found the body of Owen Hidalgo Calderon's mother, Selena Hildago Calderon, in a bag in the woods behind a farm in Sodus, the Associated Press reported. The 18-year-old, who worked on the farm, had been missing for a week. Her boyfriend, Everardo Reyes, was subsequently arrested for tampering with physical evidence. The child, however, was not located.

Both Selena Hidalgo Calderon and her son were last seen May 16 on Joy Road in Sodus, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reported. They were reported missing by her mother Sunday after she hadn't heard from her daughter for three days.

"My daughter and my grandson were my life, she was my first born and I feel like a piece of my heart is gone," said Estela Calderon.

Authorities believed the woman's body was moved to the woods from a house, according to WHEC-TV. Reyes admitted to moving the body but did not admit to killing her. He was caught on camera near Joy Road, carrying a shovel, according to Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts.

Selena Hidalgo Calderon, who was from Guatemala and came to the United States in 2016, was in the process of being deported, according to the Democrat & Chronicle. She had been going to court in Buffalo.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff's Department at (888) NYS-AMBER or 911.
