'Among Us': Which Is the Most Popular Character Color?

Among Us developer Innersloth has revealed the most popular character colors among fans of their whodunnit title, with "Tan" placing dead last.

How Many Colors Are There in 'Among Us'?

Back in June, Among Us received the first major update from its new content roadmap, which was itself announced at this year's Guerrilla Games Fest. The patch overhauled the game's visuals, introduced a new kill screen meeting menu, fixed various bugs, and increased the lobby size of matches by 50 percent.

That last part was undoubtedly the most significant change of the update, as it fundamentally altered the dynamic of games. It also necessitated that more color options be added to Among Us, in order to accommodate the more crowded matches.

For context, you cannot be wearing the same outfit as anybody else in the multiplayer lobby. The reason for this is that it helps distinguish suspects from each other while you are trying to figure out who is the imposter.

Given the restriction, it is vital that there are enough color options for everybody. Before there only needed to be sufficient costumes for 10 people at a time, but now there can be up to 15 crewmates running across the various maps.

Recognizing this, Innersloth added six new character options with the June update, those being Gray, Banana, Rose, Maroon, Coral and the ever neglected Tan. This means that there are now 18 skins in total, so even latecomers to an Among Us lobby will still get some degree of choice in how they look.

Which Is the Most Popular Character Color in 'Among Us'?

Over a month after the June update launched, Innersloth has sifted through their backend data to find out which of the color options is most fashionable.

A post from the official Among Us Twitter account—branded with the "More You Know" meme—displays the popularity ranking for each of the game's colors, with Red predictably coming in first place (they are essentially the mascot character), Black in second, White in third and Tan dragging behind in 18th.

Judging by the comments in the associated thread, this status quo might soon be disrupted. A lot of fans are coming out in support of Tan, so do not be too surprised if it suddenly climbs the leaderboard over the coming days.

Elsewhere, of the new additions, Rose fares best in fourth place, while the others are all stacked towards the bottom.

At the time of writing, the official ranking is as follows:

  1. Red
  2. Black
  3. White
  4. Rose
  5. Blue
  6. Cyan
  7. Yellow
  8. Pink
  9. Purple
  10. Orange
  11. Banana
  12. Coral
  13. Lime
  14. Green
  15. Gray
  16. Maroon
  17. Brown
  18. Tan

Among Us is available now on Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android and PC. A port for Xbox and PlayStation consoles is scheduled for release at some point in 2021.
