Amy Schumer is Coming Under Attack—Again

Amy Schumer is facing fresh bouts of criticism after two actors ran into problems over their stances on the Israel-Hamas conflict, with many saying it's unfair that Schumer hasn't faced any repercussions for her social media posts.

On October 7, Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, saying it was retribution for worsening conditions for Palestinians.

In response, Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, followed by extensive ground operations. At least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, while more than 12,700 Palestinians have been killed, with many more injured and over 1.5 million internally displaced in Gaza, according to the Associated Press.

Melissa Barrera was let go from the latest installment of the Scream franchise because of pro-Palestinian statements she made on social media that the studio, Spyglass Media, viewed as antisemitic. Susan Sarandon was dropped by her talent agent after being vocal about the ongoing situation in Gaza at a pro-Palestinian rally.

Now people are wondering why Schumer can continue to post on social media without facing any consequences.

Newsweek reached out to a representative of Schumer's for comment via email Wednesday.

The stand-up comedian has been vocal about her support for Israel online and has faced backlash as a result. One of her post's that received criticism was shared on Instagram regarding the explosion at al-Ahli Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip on October 17. The Palestinian Health Ministry said some 500 people—many of them displaced under an Israeli evacuation order—were killed in the blast.

Many questions remain unanswered about the explosion at al-Ahli Hospital and Israel and Palestinians have blamed each other for the tragedy.

The comedian accused a number of media outlets of "blaming Israel" for the hospital explosion "without fact checking." She also called for editors at specified outlets to be fired.

While Schumer has been highlighting the rise of antisemitism, she has also been accused of Islamophobia and has been criticized for sending angry messages to other celebrities who have not agreed with her, including Asia Jackson and Mia Khalifa.

People on X, formerly Twitter, are now taking issue with the fact that the likes of Barrera and Sarandon have faced backlash from the entertainment industry while Schumer has not.

Others have also called her a Zionist, with Zionism referring to the Jewish nationalist movement formed in 1897 that pushed to create a state for Jewish people in Palestine. This resulted in the creation of Israel in 1948, after the Holocaust claimed the lives of more than 6 million Jews.

"They dropped The MF Susan Sarandon! Are they crazy? Oh, what about the likes of Amy Schumer, Gal Gaddot.. And em... Or is it just those who are not pro-Isreal🤮," one person wrote.

"Reminder that Amy Schumer and Tara Strong both posted insanely harmful, Islamophobic, racist videos/images towards Palestine and got zero repercussions at all :)," posted another.

"Susan Sarandon shows empathy for Palestine = people forcing her to be canceled. Amy Schumer showing consistent support towards IDF and killings of thousands of children = People praising and supporting her. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE," a third wrote.

However, other people have thrown their support behind the comedian.

"Amy Schumer and Noah Schnapp were not condoning genocide. Susan Sarandon is a putrid racist with a considerable ego. Tom Cruise is a member of the cult of Scientology, a cult that HATES Jews," one person wrote on X.

Celebrities have also stood up for the comedian recently. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Schumer defended her views and shared a video of Martin Luther King discussing Israel and antisemitism. A variety of famous faces took to the comment section to share their support.

Comedian Kathy Griffin wrote: "I love you now and forever. You are a brilliant comic and an inspiration for women in any field."

Actor Kate Hudson commented, "Love you Amy," while 90 Day Fiancé star Loren Brovarnik added: "Yesss @amyschumer—we love you and stand by you just like you have for us."
