Angelina Jolie Earns Praise as Daughter Hits Major Milestone

Angelina Jolie has received an outpouring of online support for her parenting style after her daughter joined a sorority at an Ivy League school.

The actress, director and producer, who has six children with former partner Brad Pitt, has been a talking point on X, formerly Twitter, after a video of their daughter Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Spelman College was released.

During a ceremony on Wednesday, November 15, sophomore Zahara joined the sorority, sharing her name and dance moves with the crowd.

Spelman College is known as a historically Black, women's liberal art's college in Atlanta, Georgia.

In the video captured by platform Essence, she introduced herself: "My name is Zahara Marley Jolie. Landing all the way from the Golden State in the city full of angels: Los Angeles, California."

Dropping her father's name from her introduction, her performance went down a storm as the crowd erupted into cheer as she ran back to join the line with her fellow sorority members.

Many social media users have applauded her mother's parenting style for encouraging her to embrace her Black heritage, with supporters calling for others with adopted Black children to do the same.

Essence posted a video with the caption: "Ivies Up! The first Black sorority just gained a very familiar face as a member! Congratulations to Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, who just joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at @SpelmanCollege!

"We see you and can't wait to see all you do in the name of sisterhood, scholarship, and service to all mankind!"

A supporter said: "Zahara has such a bright future ahead of her. Angelina (yes, all by herself) did a phenomenal job raising this young lady and providing every single opportunity for her to learn and live life to its fullest."

A second added: "Angelina Jolie's daughter becoming an AKA really makes me happy. May more people who have adopted Black babies help them find ties to their culture."

An online conversation between two onlookers took place when a fan said: "Angelina adopted a Black child and let her be Black. Whew," to which another replied: "Angelina did that with all her children—they all know, learn, and live by their respective backgrounds and culture and still operate as one unit. And don't bother no one. That's why I dismiss negative Angelina talk...the fruit of her work with her children speak for themselves."

"Angelina needs to give a masterclass to white mommas who adopt Black and Asian children. She is the blueprint," cheered a spectator.

Another added: "Angelina really understood her responsibility in adopting and raising a Black girl genuinely so happy that Zahara has not been stripped of a Black experience bc of adoption or ignorance."

Last summer, Jolie shared an image of Zahara with her Spelman sisters with the caption: "Zahara with her Spelman sisters! Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl."

Jolie alleged in 2016 that Pitt was abusive toward her and their children during a 2016 flight. She claimed that he choked one of the children and struck another in the face. The pair have had a long battle over custody of their children. She filed for divorce the same year, with the couple being together for 12 years.
