Louise Rennison, the author behind popular teen lit series Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, has died at the age of 63.
Rennison's publisher HarperCollins confirmed her death on Monday, posting on Twitter: "It is with huge sadness that we can confirm the death of our much loved author and friend, Louise Rennison."
Best known for her series of books chronicling the misadventures of teenager Georgia Nicolson, Rennison's novels were beloved by teenagers around Britain. In 2008, film director Gurinder Chadha adapted the first book into a feature-length film, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, starring a then-unknown Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
HarperCollins said in a statement: "Nobody wrote for teenagers like [Rennison] did, she understood them, their lives and their extraordinary and powerful friendships. In life, as in her writing, she brought joy and laughter. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and the readers whose lives she has touched for almost 20 years."
The Fault in Our Stars author John Green led tributes from the book world on Twitter:
Philip Pullman wrote:
Rennison, who also wrote for stand-up comics and starred in her own one-woman show Stevie Wonder Felt My Face in the 1980s, was also mourned by the comedy industry.
Jonathan Creek star Alan Davies tweeted:
