Ansel Elgort Sexual Assault Allegations — A Timeline Of Events

June 2020

On June 19, 2020, a woman by the name of Gabby (@Itsgabby) on Twitter accused Elgort of sexually assaulting her in 2014.

At the time, she was reportedly 17-years-old and he was 20.

In her post, which is now deleted, 'Gabby' said she messaged the Fault in Our Stars and Baby Driver actor just two days before her 17th birthday and Elgort responded and asked her to send nude photos.

She also attached photos of what she said were their messages and a photo appearing to show her and Elgort together.

In her post, Gabby shared Elgort was the first person she had slept with and when she cried out in pain, he did not stop.

She wrote: "I was just a kid and was a fan of him, so when it happened instead of asking me if I wanted to stop having sex knowing it was my first time and I was sobbing in pain and I didn't want to do it the only words that came out of his mouth were, 'We need to break you in.' I WASNT there in that moment mentally. I dissociated myself and just felt like my mind was gone and I was in shock ... I couldn't leave, I was only 5'2" and 98 pounds."

She added: "Years later, I have PTSD, I have panic attacks, I go to therapy. Finally, I'm ready to talk about it and finally heal.

"I'm not posting this to 'clout chase' because I simply don't care for that," she shared. "I just want to heal and I want to tell other girls who have been through the same s--t as me. You're not alone. It's a lot for me to even come on here and tell my story. I simply don't want to post it all."

The following day, Elgort addressed the allegations in a now-deleted Instagram post. He accepted he and the woman in question had a "brief, legal and entirely consensual relationship" but strongly denied all allegations of sexual assault, writing "I have never and would never assault anyone."

He said: "I was distressed to see the social media posts about me that have been circulating in the past 24 hours.

"I cannot claim to understand Gabby's feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened.

"What is true is that in New York in 2014, when I was 20, Gabby and I had a brief, legal, and entirely consensual relationship. Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well. I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared.

"As I look back at my attitude, I am disgusted and deeply ashamed of the way I acted. I am truly sorry. I know I must continue to reflect, learn, and work to grow in empathy."

Newsweek has approached Elgort's representatives for comment regarding the 2020 allegations.

According to reports by Vulture, Gabby was not the only person to make sexual assault allegations against Elgort on Twitter.

One woman said Elgort asked her to Snapchat him when she was 15-years-old. Another woman said she met Elgort for two dates when he was 16-years-old and he was in her 20s.

Another woman in a now-deleted tweet said Elgort had sent her pictures of his penis in 2014 when she was 14-years-old and another woman posted a screenshot allegedly showing Elgort asking her to send him a picture of "something sexy."

Elgort has not publicly addressed the other women's claims.

Shortly after the accusations, Elgort took a noticeable break from social media and was largely absent from the public eye from January 2020 until earlier this year.

His social media was pretty much wiped and he made a return in September 2021, sharing a snippet of the official West Side Story trailer, the first post on his feed since January 2018.

In September 2021, he made his first public appearance at New York Fashion Week with his parents Arthur Elgort and Grethe Barrett Holby.

Since then, Elgort has been on the promotional trail for West Side Story. He also has a several other projects in the pipeline, including Tokyo Vice on HBO Max where he will play the lead role of Adelstein. He will also portray JFK in the upcoming film Mayday 109 and will star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the thriller Finest Kind.
