When Does Anthony Bourdain's 'Parts Unknown' Start? Watch Season 12 First Look With W. Kamau Bell

CNN released the first look at the final season of Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown on Monday. The six-episode season comes three months after the celebrity chef died by suicide in June. Season 12 will show everything Bourdain was working on in the months before his death.

The trailer for the Season 12 premiere episode includes comedian and fellow CNN personality W. Kamau Bell, who traveled with Bourdain to Kenya. "I really felt like a passenger, just wanting to be present for it," Bell says in the nearly two-minute clip. "And I didn't want to suck—that was my overwhelming feeling, like, 'Don't screw up his show.' Everybody who had dreams of traveling with Tony, it's exactly as cool as you think it is."

Throughout the trailer, Bell watches a bittersweet playback of clips he shot with Bourdain. "The greater context of the show, and the reality, and the fact that Tony's gone, makes that like a… It's like a punch in the gut," he says.

Parts Unknown Season 12 will feature commentary from other guests who traveled with Bourdain for the season. Along with Bourdain's Kenya trip with Bell, the show will include the author's travels to Asturias, Indonesia, Far West Texas and New York City's Lower East Side.

Most of the season will not include Bourdain's trademark narration—he died after completing only the first episode. Instead, the episodes will feature audio of Bourdain and his guests that was captured during filming.

Amy Entelis, CNN's executive vice president of talent and content, told The New York Times that each episode would "feel slightly different, depending on what's gathered in the field."

"They will have the full presence of Tony because you'll see him, you'll hear him, you'll watch him. That layer of his narration will be missing, but it will be replaced by other voices of people who are in the episodes," Entelis said in August, when the final season was announced.

One episode will pair outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage with commentary from the show's longtime crew members. The final episode will honor Bourdain's many achievements and impact on the world. It will also include fans' reactions to the show as well as interviews of Bourdain's friends, colleagues and other guests who appeared on the show since its 2013 debut.

Parts Unknown Season 12 premieres on CNN on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.
