New Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed where he thinks Jose Mourinho went wrong during his second reign at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho, now Manchester United manager, was dismissed by Chelsea in December 2015, four months into the club's defense of its English Premier League title.

One of the criticisms of Mourinho, which the 53-year-old sought to refute during his first United press conference, was that he did not do enough to promote youth players into the Chelsea first team.

Conte, though, who left the Italian national job after UEFA Euro 2016, said he will actively seek to do the opposite.

"There are many players with good prospects at Chelsea. I don't know why in the past a few players have played with the first team," Conte told ESPN FC.

"I love to play with the young players and to improve them. It's important to have good quality to improve and to show that a young player can play with the first team."

Conte has taken Chelsea on a pre-season tour of the United States. Defender Gary Cahill gave the club a 1-0 victory against Liverpool in Pasadena, California, though the game was marred for Conte by a challenge from Cesc Fabregas on new Liverpool signing Ragnar Klaven that saw the Spain midfielder red-carded.
