Armed Police Looking for Home Intruder Not Prepared for What They Find

Police officers in Liberty, Missouri, have released bodycam footage from an unexpected encounter during a job.

On January 27, police officers responded to an intrusion alarm at a local residence when they were taken aback by what they found there.

Instead of an armed home intruder or attempted thief, they were greeted with a sizeable squirrel.

"Noises could be heard coming from inside of the home," the officers said on their official Facebook page. "Officers entered the house. Noises continued."

Body camera footage captured the moment the officers moved cautiously through the residence. Suddenly, a startled scream can be heard from behind the camera as a large gray squirrel darts past the officers, making its escape through the house.

Despite initial shock, no injuries were reported, and the officers managed to maintain their composure throughout the encounter.

The perp, dubbed "Rocky the squirrel," made his escape, and the well-humored police force even mocked up a fake "wanted" sign warning the public to "approach with extreme caution."

Having a squirrel in the house can cause some more serious problems if not handled, though. Squirrels are natural chewers and can cause damage to a property by chewing on structural beams and electrical wires, potentially leading to electrical fire hazards and loss of valuables.

They also carry ticks, fleas and other parasites, posing potential disease risk.

If you're struggling with a squirrel problem and are unable to evacuate them yourself, it can help to call a humane pest control company to help prevent damage and ensure animals can be comfortably relocated somewhere more appropriate.

There were plenty of comments when the Liberty Police Department shared the unusual footage with residents on their official Facebook page.

"Too funny," said Tony, while Deana said: "That's great footage if the perp!"

"Dang, that's nuts," joked Griff. "Glad everyone is okay!"

And another said: "Great dance skills and soprano voice."

This isn't the first time a squirrel has gained attention for their antics. In 2023, a fluffy rodent left people laughing when it started a stare-off through a window with a Labrador.

While in November 2023, another intruder squirrel broke into a woman's apartment in Canada and terrified her and the internet by stealing a knife.

"I was shook at what I was witnessing because it just stared at me with a knife in it's mouth. When I tried to walk towards it, it started running," the woman who had the encounter said.
