Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin wants Arsène Wenger to remain manager at Emirates Stadium, despite a humiliating UEFA Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

Arsenal exited Europe's elite club competition at the round of 16 stage for the seventh consecutive year, a 5-1 defeat in Munich on February 15 matched by the same result in north London on Tuesday evening.

Bellerin, 21, said after the game that he wanted Wenger to stay. The 67-year-old Frenchman is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of this season.

"Of course," Bellerin told Arsenal's official website when asked if Wenger should stay. "It's as simple as that, especially for me. He's the one who gave me my chance since day one.

"He's played a big part in making me the player that I am, and there are loads of players in the dressing room who will be in the same position as me. We all back him and of course we want him to stay."

Arsenal, fifth in the English Premier League, travels to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday in a game it must win to keep its hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League alive.
