Asbury Park Hotel Executive Brian Holland Killed by NJ Train

The Asbury Park, New Jersey community is mourning the loss of hotel executive Brian Holland, killed by a New Jersey Transit train in overnight hours Monday.

Holland, 37, was an Asbury Park resident for the past decade who worked as regional director of experience at The Asbury, a boutique hotel that opened in 2016.

The New Jersey Transit accident that killed Holland occurred at about 2:20 a.m. near the Sunset Avenue Crossing, according to reports.

No passengers were on board the train, according to NJ.com, which reported the NJ Transit train was "being moved from Bay Head to Long Branch along the North Jersey Coast Line to get in position for the morning rush" at the time of the accident. Holland was active in theater productions in college and worked for more than 15 years at The Atlantic Club.

Funeral services for Holland, a parishioner of St. Rose Church, Belmar, NJ., are on Thursday with visitation on Wednesday, according to legacy.com: "Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, 10 AM at St. Rose Church, Belmar. We kindly ask that you go right to the church."

Friends are remembering Holland as "funny" and "sweet" a key part of the Asbury Hotel family.

"To the Holland Family - I'm so sorry to see this in the paper," wrote Beth Owen, from Staten Island, New York, on legacy.com. "Brian was a sweet and funny person and the world will be less beautiful without him."

The Asbury Hotel remembered Holland with a Facebook post.

"It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our Asbury Hotel family members," the company posted. "Brian Holland has been an integral part of our team since prior to the hotel opening and all of our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tragic time. Brian; you will forever be in our hearts, your warmth will be forever missed and we will all cherish the blessing of having had you as a part of our Salt family."
