'Assassin's Creed Odyssey' Gates of Atlantis Guide: Where is the Minotaur, Medusa, Sphinx and Cyclops?

Assassin's Creed Odyssey seems like a straightforward game, until about halfway through when things really open up. You thought this was just about your family? Oh yeah, there's also a crazy cult to deal with. And Atlantis. Unlocking Atlantis involves recovering four artifacts, but that's not an easy task. The artifacts are guarded by mythical beasts, and they'll require smarts and strength to beat.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Gates of Atlantis Guide

The biggest initial issues with this mission are you have no clue where to go after receiving it, outside of broad areas to search. We found the specifics for you, so it'll help speed up the process somewhat, but you're going to need to reach level 50 if you want to complete all four missions. The monsters are simply too difficult to beat unless you've leveled up enough.

Here's how to get all four artifacts in the "Gates of Atlantis" mission:

Sphinx

The Sphinx can be found in Boeotia and can be bested without combat, which is great for lower-level players. The Sphinx is located to the east of Lake Kopais and west of the Cursed Land of Oedipous.

To beat the Sphinx without combat, give the following answers to the riddles:

1) memories

2) river

3) the sun

Once done, you'll need to touch the stones in the order of your answers. Look for a human head with a gear in it for memories, three squiggly lines for river and a circle with lines coming out of it for the sun. After touching the three stones in order, the Sphinx gives up and you get the artifact, along with a Sphinx figurehead for your ship.

Cyclops

The Cyclops isn't on Kythera, but the mission you need to complete to get to the Cyclops is. To start the hunt for this artifact, you'll want to find the "A God Among Men" mission, which is just south of the Aphrodite's Retreat fast travel location.

After completing the series of missions from "A God Among Men", you'll be tasked with sailing to the Isle of Thisvi, or the Forgotten Isle. It's just off the coast of Phokis to the west. You likely already sailed by this island on your way from Kephallonia to Megaris.

The Cyclops is just a big boss fight, and there's no real strategy outside of "avoid his attacks and whittle down his health bar." Once you kill the Cyclops, you'll have one more artifact for Atlantis.

Minotaur

The Minotaur is hidden away on Messara, along the southern border of the map. To get to the Minotaur area, you must first complete missions from an annoying little kid. Look for the mission "Myths and Minotaurs" to get this underway.

Once these basic missions are complete, you'll be able to head down to the catacombs. Follow the rope to find the kid's dad, who has fallen victim to the Minotaur already. Once you find his body, turn around to find a new hallway to wander down. Go this way to enter the Minotaur's den.

Like the Cyclops, there isn't much of a strategy here other than dodge the Minotaur's attacks and chip away at his health until he dies. The Minotaur is a level 40 enemy, so don't even try to kill him until you're around level 37 at least.

Medusa

The final mythical beast is the hardest in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. To get this mission started, you'll need to find the "Romancing the Stone Garden" mission in Lesbos. Once you have freed Bryce from her captors, follow her into the petrified forest.

Medusa creates minions that need to be destroyed before you can do damage to her. You'll also want to stay out of her gaze, since being hit by her beam attack slowly turns you to stone. If you start turning into stone, roll away from the beam until you recover.

Once the minions are clear, do as much damage to Medusa as possible, until she summons more minions. Keep this up until you clear her health bar, and you're done!

So what do you think? Are you going to try and defeat all four mythical beasts in Assassin's Creed Odyssey? Do you wish you didn't need to reach max level to win the fights? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
