'Avengers 4' Runtime Is 3 Hours Long Right Now, Joe Russo Says

The current Avengers 4 runtime is a whopping three hours, director Joe Russo revealed on Instagram Thursday. Russo answered fan questions as he was showing off Duello, a new cocktail bar in his Los Angeles restaurant. "We will see if that holds," Russo added, before moving onto the next question, which asked about the timetable of the editing process.

"We are about halfway through the editing process," he revealed. "We are just scratching the surface on all our vfx shots. There are more than 3000 vfx shots in the movie. We are very early in that phase. We just started work on the score. We are still editing picture at this point."

Considering the editing process isn't close to done, it's clear that three-hour time is a rough estimate. If the running time holds, though, the Infinity War sequel will be 20 minutes longer than the original, which was Marvel's longest movie to date at 2 hours and 40 minutes.

DC's longest movie is the Dark Knight Rises at two hours and 34 minutes, beating out Watchmen by only two minutes. Believe it or not, Batman v Superman (the theatrical release) was only two hours and 30 minutes. Some of the few movies exceeding the three-hour mark include The Godfather, Part II, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Titanic, and more recently the Wolf of Wall Street.

Elsewhere in the short Q&A, Russo named the "Dungeons & Dragons" episode of Community as his favorite. He also gave some advice to an aspiring filmmaker.

"You live in an age of technology is readily available to you," he said. "All of that stuff was very expensive and difficult when my brother and I started making films. Now you can pick up an iPhone. You have free distribution. You can get things on the internet and get eyeballs on your content. Find people who can behave truthfully on camera. My advice is: shoot, shoot, shoot."

Head over to Duello's Instagram to watch the Q&A. Avengers 4 arrives May 3, 2019.
