Matthew McConaughey is set to star in The Beach Bum, which is a film the actor was destined to star in. Directed by Harmony Korine, The Beach Bum follows a free-spirited stoner named Moondog as he lives out his life in Florida according to his own rules. He has the potential to write "the next great American novel," but not if he continues to let his shenanigans and misadventures stand in his way.

McConaughey, 49, differs greatly from Moondog. He's an Academy Award-winning actor that boasts more than 50 credits on his résumé, including films like Dallas Buyers Club and Interstellar. Celebrity Net Worth reported that his net worth has reached $95 million. He's the face of Ford's luxury brand Lincoln. Fortune claims the actor earns $4 million through his creative director role with Wild Turkey, which makes him the highest-paid creative director in advertising. He's married to Brazilian-American model and designer Camila Alves—a woman he shares three children with.

Despite McConaughey's successes, he's still in many ways similar to his character from The Beach Bum. Moondog is a care-free guy who enjoys smoking pot and drinking with the goal of living his best life, but McConaughey is the same way. A list of McConaughey's seven most free-spirited moments—often hilarious and mind-baffling at times—are examined below:

McConaughey Once Offered a Reward to Help Track Down His Lost Flip-Flop

After a night of partying in Nicaragua in 2008, McConaughey lost track of his flip-flop. According to the New York Daily News, a customer—Amber Poe—and her roommate were interacting with the White Boy Rick star at a bar when he lost his cool upon realizing he misplaced one of his shoes. Poe said McConaughey "stood on a table, screaming in broken Spanish, 'I've lost my flip-flops.'" He later confirmed to NY Daily News that he was "drunk" at the time and he still hadn't found his missing shoe. "I'm STILL looking for my left flip-flop. So if anyone finds it floating around down there (it has 6:22 stitched into the side), please send it my way. There is a reward," he said.

Kate Hudson Found McConaughey Howling Alone in the Woods

Hudson honored her pal at the American Cinematheque Award in 2014 by sharing a bizarre moment that involved her searching for the True Detective alum in the Canadian woods during a weekend trip with friends. "I found him standing on a rock, butt naked howling and gesturing. I was like, 'OK, there's Matthew McConaughey and he's fine. He's totally fine.' We can definitely say that Matthew is one with nature," she said, according to E! Online.

McConaughey Forgot He Filmed a Nude Scene for a Movie

McConaughey's film Serenity features one of the craziest cinematic twists in 2019 so far, but what's crazier than the film's mind-blowing plot addition is the southern actor forgetting that he shot a nude scene for the movie. During a January appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, host Stephen Colbert said McConaughey was "buck naked in this movie" and the actor responded: "That's what I keep hearing." He was aware that he appeared "topless," but he was shocked to have "people coming up saying: 'Oh my God, it was great to see you full frontal.'"

McConaughey's Reason for Liking the Washington Redskins

While McConaughey grew up in Texas, he explained to GQ in 2014 his reasoning for being a Washington Redskins supporter. "First: 4 years old, watching Westerns, I always rooted for the Indians. Second, my favorite food was hamburgers. The Redskins had a linebacker named Chris Hanburger," he said.

McConaughey Was Arrested After Banging Bongos in the Nude

McConaughey was arrested at 29 in October 1999 at 3 a.m. while at his home in Austin, Texas. Police responded to a call that complained of a disturbance. When officers arrived, The Dark Tower actor was found dancing and playing bongos in the nude. Cops who searched his home found marijuana seeds and stems in addition to drug paraphernalia. McConaughey addressed his arrest in Playboy's January 2017 issue, saying: "My first call was to my mother. I was feeling guilty because I was not raised to be in jail."

McConaughey Accidentally Got High on 'The Beach Bum' Set with Snoop Dogg

During a Wednesday appearance on Jimmel Kimmel Live!, McConaughey and Dogg shared the story of how they accidentally got high while shooting their first scene together for The Beach Bum. McConaughey explained how he brought in prop joints made out of oregano to use, but he said: "Right after the scene, I just feel like, man, I'm not sure of this prop." Dogg then informed him "that wasn't prop weed, that was Snoop weed."

McConaughey's First Paid Gig Involved Killing Armadillos

In a 2014 interview with GQ, the Mud star detailed his experience working at Oak Forest Country Club in Texas, which required him to rake sand traps starting at 3 a.m. In time, McConaughey's boss asked him to use a .22 Long Rifle to kill armadillos that were eating the greens.
