Friday morning, April 5, saw an unusual seismic event in the New York City area. A 4.7-magnitude earthquake centered near Lebanon, New Jersey, sent tremors through parts of the Big Apple, Long Island, Connecticut, and New Jersey around 10:23 a.m., as reported by the U.S. Geological Survey.
Despite the widespread shaking, no damage has been reported thus far.
Both New York Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Adams have received updates regarding the situation. Governor Hochul assured the public on X, stating, "My team is assessing impacts and any damage that may have occurred, and we will update the public throughout the day."
It's safe to say New Yorkers had a lot to say about this rare occurance, with many taking to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm what they just felt. "Y'all felt that too?" one user posted, "Dear California... how the f**k do you live like this?" asked another.
