'Better Call Saul' Co-Creator Peter Gould Would Love to Make More Spin-offs

After 15 years, Better Call Saul has come to an end and closed the book on the Breaking Bad franchise, for now at least.

Speaking to Newsweek in June ahead of the show premiering the second half of its final season in July, co-creator Peter Gould reflected on whether he'd want to return to the franchise with another potential spin-off.

While co-creator Vince Gilligan has said he feels he should know when to "leave the party", Gould shared that he'd "love to leave the door open" for more, even if he acknowledges that they don't have any plans to return right now.

"I would love to work with Vince Gilligan again, we have no plan for another spin off and I think we both feel like this is, you know, we've finished the story, and it's not one that goes on forever," Gould told Newsweek.

"Both the shows, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, were stories that had endings to them and I think we've reached the ending of this story.

"But you know, having said that, someday I'd love [to], there's some other things I want to do. But someday I'd love to, I'd love to leave the door open to revisiting that wonderful Albuquerque world of these characters.

"It's, yeah, I hate to think that it's completely over, but it's certainly all for now."

Since the show has ended Gould has confirmed in several interviews that he and Gilligan don't have any plans to return to the show as yet, and Gilligan is also said to be working on a new series unrelated to the franchise, per Deadline.

Peter Gould on 'Better Call Saul's 'Rewarding' Ending

Gould wrote and directed the finale, titled "Saul Gone" and he spoke to Newsweek about the show's ending, saying he felt it was "a very natural, rewarding" one but that he couldn't be sure how fans would react.

Of the finale, he explained: "I can tell you that we felt that we're excited about the way we're ending the series.

"But, you know, there's a little bit of apprehension because you can't please everybody, I think it's right, I think it's the right thing for the characters, all of them.

"And I think we're definitely playing the same cards that we dealt to begin with, I think it's a very natural, rewarding ending. But how people are going to feel about it, I really couldn't say."
