During Bill Maher's monologue on his HBO show Real Time with Bill Maher, the comedian took swings at Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's pugilistic tone during the judge's testimony under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
Maher suggested the man hoping to earn the Associate Justice seat on the U.S. Supreme Court vacated by Anthony Kennedy when he retired in July.
When defending himself against accusations that he sexually attacked Dr. Christine Blasey Ford during house party in suburban Maryland during the early 1980s, Kavanaugh erupted in a vigorous display of anger directed at some of the senators on the committee.
Maher said that Ford's testimony was "compelling."
"When someone's being real it shows," he said. "Even conservatives had to admit it was incredible."
Kavanaugh admitted to chugging beers with fellow prep schoolers, but that he never lost consciousness or fell into a state of memory loss. Much attention was pointed at Kavanaugh's yearbook entry to binge drinking and a sexual slight pointed at least one high school girl.
Maher summed up Kavanaugh's behavior as "unhinged."
"If that was a divorce hearing -- she would have gotten the kids," he said as the crowd cheered.
Then Maher laid the blame of the fire and brimstone display during the hearing squarely on President Donald Trump.
"Why did Kavanaugh suddenly act that way," he said in a windup. "Because Trump told him to Because Trump didn't like that he was being meek and good bread. He likes bad bread. He wants someone in his image.
"So he gave him whiny little bitch lessons. And that's what we saw."
Maher claimed the country was feted to a "very different Brett Kavanaugh" who he compared to coming out of the gate in his opening statement as "angry" as well as "volatile, bitter -- belligerent."
And Maher mocked him for it.
"Because nothing says 'I'm not capable of violent assault!' by flying into an unhinged rage."
And if Kavanaugh managed to be confirmed to take up the Supreme Court post, Maher suggested the prestigious bench would be made up of "eight bookish nerds and the Hulk."
