First 'Black Lightning' Season 2 Synopsis Teases Way More Metahumans

The CW released the synopsis for Black Lightning Season 2 episode 1, "The Book of Consequences: Chapter One: Rise of the Green Light Babies." The title alone teases way more metahumans in the show, and the description echoes that, hinting at the repercussions of Tobias Whale's wrath on the Pierce family. Read below:

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) and his family may have survived Tobias's (Marvin Jones III) attack, but they're not out of the woods yet. Concerned for the safety of Garfield's students, the board considers a motion to shut down the school, forcing Jefferson to go to Napier Frank (guest star Robert Townsend) to sway the vote. Jennifer (China Anne McClain) struggles with her powers and her actions have unforeseen repercussions. Meanwhile, Anissa (Nafessa Williams) finds a new way to give back to Freeland. Lastly, Lynn (Christine Adams) continues her quest much to the dismay of Agent Odell (guest star Bill Duke). Damon Gupton and James Remar also star.

More superpowers is no surprise. The Black Lightning Season 1 finale saw the Pierce family save four "pod" metahumans who were subjects of decade-long Green Light experiments at the A.S.A. Lynn called a doctor to help her treat patients, and hopefully we'll get answers early in Season 2 about what these kids are up to now.

The finale also revealed Jefferson's origins; he got a vaccine as a kid containing Green Light. It's possible Jefferson might go looking for more people like him now that he knows the truth. There's also that mysterious, glowing briefcase Tobias took from the A.S.A to think about… there's no telling what's inside, but lord knows its important.

Black Lightning opened with the groundwork to explore The Outsiders, a superhero team the titular hero leads in the comic books. The most recent addition for Season 2 is Looker, a metahuman who will be played by Supergirl alum Sofia Vassilieva. Of course, Black Lightning's daughter, Anissa, is a core member of The Outsiders in the comics as well. Her girlfriend Grace Choi (briefly introduced in Season 1) is also a member.
