Burt Reynolds of 'Boogie Nights' Dead At 82

Burt Reynolds has died at the age of 82, The Hollywood Reporter announced Thursday. Reynolds passed at Jupiter Medical in Florida after he suffered a heart attack. His family was with him at the time of his passing, TMZ reported.

The actor was best known for his roles in Boogie Nights, Smokey and the Bandit and Deliverance. He was filming movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, according to the Internet Movie Database. He was also cast in a film titled The French Cowboy, which is in the stages of pre-production.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a Quentin Tarantino movie that will focus on the Charles Manson story and the murder of Sharon Tate. Reynolds was cast as George Spahn, based on the real man of the same name who rented his property to the Manson family, according to Consequence of Sound.

Reynolds leaves behind a son. In his time as an actor, he won multiple Golden Globes. He also won an Emmy for his role in Evening Shade, a CBS sitcom that premiered from 1990-1994.

Celebrities expressed immediate condolences on Twitter and noted Reynolds as a "trailblazer."

Arnold Schwarzenegger was one of the first celebrities to mourn the star on Twitter. "Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer," Schwarzenegger wrote. "He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor - check out his Tonight Show clips. My thoughts are with his family."

Actor and playwright Harvey Fierstein did not want to believe the news of Reynolds' death. "Not Burt Reynolds! This is too much. Give him back now!!!!" he tweeted.

Comedian Patton Oswalt relayed a story about Reynolds' firing from Gunsmoke at the same time as Clint Eastwood was fired from Rawhide. "Burt Reynolds & Clint Eastwood were fired from GUNSMOKE & RAWHIDE at the same time," he tweeted. "Burt was told he couldn't act and Clint his neck was too skinny. In the parking lot, Burt said to Clint, 'I dunno what you're gonna do, but I'm gonna take acting lessons.'"

In March, Reynolds explained Sally Fields was the love of his life and confessed to still thinking about her, he told Today. "I miss her terribly. Even now, it's hard on me," he said. "I don't know why I was so stupid. Men are like that, you know. You find the perfect person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up."
