Sentenced Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is now inside Supermax, the country's most strict and secure prison, located in Florence, Colorado.
In May, a jury sentenced Tsarnaev to death for his role in the April 2013 bombing that killed three people and wounded 264 others near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. A month later, U.S. District Judge George O'Toole formally sentenced him to death. Earlier this month, Tsarnaev formally filed a preliminary motion for a new trial.
Until he was moved to Supermax on Friday, Tsarnaev was held at a high-security penitentiary in Florence, the Boston Globe reported. Other infamous convicts, including Richard Reid, the Shoe Bomber, also are housed at Supermax, where they have little communication with the outside world.
A facility in Terre Haute, Indiana, has been named the location where Tsarnaev's eventual execution will take place.
Tsarnaev turns 22 on Wednesday.
