Boy Sends Touching Birthday Letter to Dad 'In Heaven'. Gets Reply

A 7-year-old boy who had sent a birthday message to his dad "in heaven" received a "lovely" letter from a mailman at the postal service.

Jase Hyndman, from West Lothian in Scotland, and his 10-year old sister Neive have written a letter every year to their father since he passed away in May 2014, the BBC reports.

But this time, he received a surprising response.

Sean Milligan, an assistant delivery office manager for the Royal Mail, wrote: "While we've been delivering your post, we became aware of some concerns. So, I just wanted to take this opportunity to contact you about how we succeeded in the delivery of your letter, to your dad in heaven."

"This was a difficult challenge avoiding stars and other galactic objects on route to heaven. However please be assured that this particular important item of mail has been delivered. Royal Mail's priority is to get our customers mail delivered safely, I know how important your mail is to you. I will continue to do all I can to ensure delivery to heaven safely."

In response to the postman's letter, which arrived a few weeks ago, Hyndman's mother Teri Copland wrote an emotional post on Facebook, which included pictures of the Royal Mail note.

"I actually cannot state how emotional he is knowing his dad got his card. You didn't have to make the effort to do this you could have just ignored it but the fact that you have made the effort for a little boy you've never met is such a lovely thing to do," she wrote.

"Royal Mail you've just restored my faith in humanity and thank you," she added. "It honestly means the world to him. Please share this so all the staff at Royal Mail know just how grateful we are. Thanks, and merry Christmas."

Copeland's post with the picture of the Royal Mail's response has been shared more than 250,000 times at the time of writing.

Copeland said that her son was "overwhelmed" when he received the note. He kept saying "dad really got my letter," she told the BBC. "I've always told Neive and Jase even if you can't get anyone a present it's always nice to make sure you send a card at Christmas and birthdays."

"I want people to realize that a small gesture of kindness can have such a fantastic impact on someone's life. Royal Mail actually took part and that gives me so much comfort."
