Woman Texts Boyfriend She's 'Struggling' on Run—He Knows Exactly What To Do

A video of a man's unique way of cheering his girlfriend onwards during her outdoor run has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared by Phoebe Georgiana (@phoebegeorgiana) and has had over 901,000 views since it was first posted on April 2.

A message overlaid on the video reads: "POV [point of view]: You text your BF [boyfriend] that you are struggling on your 13km [about eight miles] run."

The footage shows a man driving a car down a residential street, moving in parallel with a woman running along the pavement. "Gonna Fly Now," the theme song from the Rocky film, is heard blasting from the car as the man is seen smiling and bopping his head along to it while driving the car. He is seen shouting "Let's go Phoebe" out of the window at one point.

Around 48 million people in the United States went running or jogging at least once last year, according to data compiled by Statista, the global data firm.

While the figure was higher than what was reported in 2022, it was still marginally lower in 2023 than in 2019 and 2020, Statista noted.

Findings from Nielsen, the official research and intelligence supplier to World Athletics, published in June 2021, found that 13 percent of those surveyed began running in the year leading up to April 2020 and the majority of them (9 percent of all runners) said that the COVID-19 pandemic played at least some part in their decision to start running.

More than a fifth (22 percent) of all runners claimed to run more often than they did previously as a result of COVID-19, the study found.

Even if it may be a challenge for some at times, like it was for the woman in the latest viral clip, running even five to 10 minutes a day and at slow speeds of less than six miles per hour is "associated with markedly reduced risks of death from all causes and cardiovascular disease," according to an August 2014 study in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
