The Teen Mom OG trailer hinted at trouble in paradise for Bristol Palin and Dakota Meyer. Palin has since announced her divorce from Meyer, citing "discord or conflict of personalities" as the cause of their uncoupling. Now Meyer is giving fans a little more insight into his current relationship with Palin, with whom he shares two daughters Atlee Bay and Sailor Grace.
Meyer hosted a question-and-answer session on his Instagram stories and was asked by a fan whether or not he and Palin got along since divorcing. Meyer's answer? "No, that's why we got the divorce," he wrote in a follow-up post on Sunday.
Although Meyer didn't share much more on his failed marriage, fans will get a glimpse of what he and Palin were going through before their divorce on Teen Mom OG. In the Season 8 trailer, Palin details the strain Meyer's PTSD placed on their relationship. "It's been hard on our marriage," she says. "We don't know how to co-exist together. I don't want my kids to think that this is what a marriage looks like."
While the trailer makes it pretty clear Meyer will be a part of the show in Palin's storyline, the Marine and war veteran revealed he initially didn't want to be a cast member. "It's not something I ever wanted to do I was kind of forced into it but what I'm going to do, after meeting the crew and how incredible they are, I'm going to use the platform to show and shed light on living with PTSD, anxiety and having a family, and what that looks like and try to help and make the world a better place," Meyer wrote when asked about his appearance on the show.
Meyer participated in the War in Afghanistan and he was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2015 for his role during the 2009 Battle of Ganjgal.
Despite not being an original Teen Mom cast member, Palin was one of most famous teen moms when her first pregnancy with son Tripp Johnston was revealed while her mother, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, was running for vice president in late Senator John McCain's presidential campaign in 2008.
Bristol Palin was 17 at the time. Shortly after her pregnancy was announced, her son's father, Levi Johnston, popped the question. Their wedding was called off three months after Bristol Palin gave birth in 2009. She later married Meyer in 2016.
Levi Johnston went on to later marry Sunny Johnston in 2010. The couple and their two daughters will also be featured in the upcoming season of Teen Mom OG.
Teen Mom OG returns to MTV on October 1 at 9 p.m. ET.
