Britney Spears' Heartbreaking Revelations About Husband Sam Asghari

Since Britney Spears' new memoir, The Woman in Me, was released on Tuesday, there has been a lot of discussion of her relationship with soon-to-be ex-husband Sam Asghari.

The book sees the Princess of Pop, 41, set the record straight on a number of areas of her life that had been speculated on since she rose to fame. She has also shared revelations that were not previously known to the public.

Among the moments in her life that have been written about are her 13-year conservatorship, her divorce from Kevin Federline, and her high-profile romance with singer Justin Timberlake.

Spears also spends a fair amount of time gushing about her ex-husband Sam Ashgari—whom she refers to by his full name, Hesam—and how good her relationship with the 29-year-old had been for her mental health.

Newsweek has reached out to Spears', Asghari's, Federline's, and Timberlake's representatives for comment.

Asghari is portrayed as having a strong influence on Spears throughout the book and she even describes him as a "gift from God," which stands in stark contrast to the fact that they separated shortly before it was published. The couple split in August 2023, after the book was seemingly finalized and sent to the printer, so the breakup is not addressed.

The pair met in October 2016 when Asghari starred as Spears' love interest in one of her music videos. The duo hit it off immediately and exchanged numbers during the shoot, and Spears ended up finding the personal trainer's number in her bag.

"The first time I saw Hesam Asghari on the set of my video for "Slumber Party," I knew I wanted him in my life immediately. I was instantly smitten. The chemistry with us in the beginning was insane. We couldn't keep our hands off each other," Spears wrote in the memoir. "He called me his lioness."

This isn't the only time she sings the praises of Asghari, regularly thanking him for being there for her during dark times in her life.

While Spears has very publicly fought a conservatorship, several years before her court battle she made a cry for help when she walked into a salon in Los Angeles and proceeded to shave her head bald. The experience has clearly had a lingering effect on the star, who credits Asghari for making her feel better about the ordeal.

"Now my husband, Hesam, tells me that it's a whole thing for beautiful girls to shave their heads," she wrote. "It's a vibe, he says—a choice not to play into ideas of conventional beauty."

The "Toxic" singer is also appreciative of the spiritual impact Asghari has had on her life and mentions how excited the pair were for their future together after the conservatorship.

"Hesam and I always pray together. I look up to him—his consistency with working out and being a good man and being healthy and taking care of me and helping me learn how we can take care of each other. He's such an inspiration and I'm grateful," she said.

Spears touches on her pregnancy with Asghari, talking about how she suffered from depression during her pregnancies with the two sons she had with Federline, Sean Preston and Jayden, and she wondered if it would happen again.

Despite these concerns, she was excited, as she said she'd wanted another baby "for so many years." Unfortunately, she miscarried before the end of the first trimester.

"For a long time, Hesam and I had been eager to start our own family. I have an appreciation for how stable he is. I love that he doesn't even drink. He's a gift from God. And to find out that he and I were about to have a child together made me feel giddy...before the end of my first trimester, I miscarried," she said, describing herself as "devastated."

The former couple announced their divorce in August 2023 after 14 months of marriage. In a statement posted online, the model and fitness trainer said he and Spears will "hold onto the love and respect" they have for each other.

Court documents filed at a court in Los Angeles at the time cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce, and revealed that Asghari and Spears had separated back in July, three weeks before the public was informed.

Asghari later shared that he obtained an early copy of Spears' book and already read it. In an interview with TMZ, he said he wasn't worried about anything written in it that could paint him in a negative light.

However, he has since received backlash from fans of Spears after talking to Interview Magazine this week, right before the book was released.

"Can Sam Ashgari find a new aesthetic other than making money off of the fact he's Britney's ex-husband?" one person posted to X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Being controversial for the sake of being controversial is so dull and boring. It's played, it's tired. Interview Magazine doing a photoshoot with Sam Asghari is just so tasteless in my opinion. Like how are you for the culture?" another wrote.

"Gross. Bad timing," another fan said.

Asghari didn't mention Spears or her new book in the interview, though he is seen in one photo wearing a tank top with the word Lucky on it, which is also the name of a song by Spears.

Fans have noted that Spears' previous husband, Kevin Federline, also seemed to use his relationship with Spears to boost his career, in a relationship Spears compares to the one she had with Timberlake.

"Kevin Federline pretty much left Britney Spears to defend for herself & take care of the children alone. All while he traveled across the world trying to create [a] fake rap/acting career," one wrote on X.

Spears and Federline met in the summer of 2004 and were married a short while later in September of that same year. Spears says that at the time, Federline made her feel like she could escape "everything that was hard in my life."

Unfortunately, after having two children together, Spears eventually filed for divorce in 2006. In her memoir, the pop star claims Federline was hungry for fame, which she thinks is what ultimately led to their relationship's demise.

"Kevin was just so enthralled with the fame and the power. Again and again in my life I've seen fame and money ruin people, and I saw it happen with Kevin in slow motion," she wrote.

When the couple eventually called it quits, Spears said it felt like everyone was delighted by news of their divorce—everyone except for her.

She continued: "I did not feel like celebrating. Looking back, I think that both Justin and Kevin were very clever. They knew what they were doing, and I played right into it."

She said she never really trusted people again after the experience and that she was "clueless."
