Who Is Burna Boy? 'African Giant' Calls Out Coachella For Name Placement On 2019 Lineup

Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy called out Coachella for listing his name in the third row of their 2019 lineup. The musician asked the music festival to change the poster to include his name higher up.

''I really appreciate you," he wrote of Coachella on his Instagram story Thursday. "But I don't appreciate the way my name is written so small in your bill. I am an AFRICAN GIANT and will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means. Fix tings quick please.''

Burna Boy is one of two Nigerian artists on the bill this year, alongside Mr Eazi, which brought celebration from the African music community. Some, however, were turned off by Burna Boy's comment that he's an "African Giant."

Many Twitter users seem to feel Burna Boy is a relatively niche artist, meaning he shouldn't secure a spot among the headliners, who are Ariana Grande, Tame Impala and Childish Gambino, or even just below. His spot on the lineup, which rests in the middle of the Sunday write-up, was higher than artists of last years, some social media users exclaimed.

"Wizkid was written in a similar font last year and the fonting is with respect to how renowned you are to the audience coming to the show. How many Americans know who burna boy is for him to want to headline the show," user @nnanjivictor0 wrote. "Even Wiz Khalifa was written in a small font."

Another saw Burna Boy's statement to be manifesting his future. "Folarin the way you're insulting this guy for knowing his worth is bothering me o!" wrote Twitter user @JnrAdokiye. "I think therefore I am" @burnaboy see himself as African Giant and he'll definitely achieve the status. I see myself as rich and I'll definitely be rich so why you angry?"

Burna Boy has an R&B, Singer-songwriter style. He released his last album in 2018, titled Outside. He's worked with artists such as Lily Allen, WizKid and Mabel who are featured on his albums. Burna Boy released his first album in 2011, according to Spotify. He is currently 27 years old.

Coachella will take place from April 12 to 14 and 19 to 21. Attendees can buy their tickets Friday. The 2019 lineup has been met with general excitement, according to social media users who have reposted the lineup.
