Camila Cabello's New Song Sparks Horror Movie Comparisons

Camila Cabello has teased her new single, and some people couldn't help but see comparisons to one of the most critically acclaimed horror films of all time.

The Cuban-born singer shared a 30-second video of her lip-syncing to a song with the lyrics "I love it" repeated over and over.

She shared the video to social media with the caption: "Coming soon(er than you think) xoxo💘c," the announcement also included a link to her website, which featured only a photo of a city skyline and links to music streaming platforms for fans to subscribe to notifications.

But it was Cabello's performance in the teaser video that sparked conversation. In the video, the Havana singer is lying out of a car window head first as it speeds down a street. Many music fans began to compare it to a shocking, but infamous, death scene in the horror film Hereditary, which stars Toni Collette.

Warning: This story contains spoilers for the 2018 film Hereditary.

In that film, the young daughter of Collette's character dies after she puts her head out of the car window to get some air because she suffering an anaphylactic shock and her older brother is speeding home to get her help. The graphic scene implies she is decapitated after the car drives past a wooden telephone pole.

People on social media were quick to make jokes on X, formerly Twitter, with one posting a screenshot from the movie of the telephone pole, joking, "the album cover."

Someone else posted: "girl be careful..." alongside a GIF from Hereditary showing the siblings in the car moments before the fateful accident.

And a third wrote: "Girl put your head back in the car! You didn't see hereditary?!"

Newsweek contacted Cabello's representatives by email for comment.

Cabello rose to fame in the girl group Fifth Harmony and her debut album, Camila, went number one on the Billboard charts when it was released in 2018.

Most recently, Cabello has been in the news for her dating life, after she was spotted on vacation with Canadian rapper Drake.

She was asked about it on the Call Her Daddy podcast, and she replied: "Oh gosh, it was a vacation plus some work."

But then Cabello turned to the camera and gave a wink sending her and host Alex Cooper into a fit of giggles.

Cabello had previously been in a long-term relationship with fellow singer Shawn Mendes.
