Captain Marvel opened to an impressive $153 million at the domestic box office, proving the first female-led Marvel Studios movie is a massive hit. And fans are already be looking forward to the next MCU installment, Avengers: Endgame, thanks to Captain Marvel's post-credits scene.
Actually, Captain Marvel has two post-credits scenes, but only one of them is tied to the upcoming Avengers film.
So what was shown in these post-credits scenes? How does Carol Danvers factor into Endgame? Let's dive in.
Spoiler Warning! If you don't want to know about the Captain Marvel post-credits scenes, turn back now.
CAROL MEET THE AVENGERS
The mid-credits scene is more connected to Avengers: Endgame than the post-credits and seems to be a scene ripped out of the film coming out in April.
The scene begins showing the pager that Nick Fury dropped when he was snapped out of existence. He was calling for Captain Marvel, but the Avengers found the archaic communication device didn't know that and are trying to figure out what it means.
Captain America, Black Widow and Bruce Banner are watching the number of missing people from Thanos' actions in Infinity War climb when War Machine walks in to tell them that something happened to the pager.
The Avengers hooked up the pager to an energy source to prevent its battery from dying as they figured it was a beacon that Fury sent. However, the pager stopped beeping and just before they reboot it, Carol Danvers appears behind them.
All she says is "Where's Fury?" before the scene ends and a line of text that reads,"Captain Marvel will return in Avengers: Endgame" appears on screen.
It's no secret that Captain Marvel was going to appear in the upcoming Avengers film, but to see a scene from the movie shown in the mid-credits scene, interacting with the established heroes was a geek-out moment for sure.
Many wondered how Danvers would meet with the remaining Avengers. What happens after is anyone's guess, but we wouldn't be surprised if in classic Avengers fashion the heroes mistake Captain Marvel for a threat, or vice-versa, and they have a big scrum establishing Carol as the major powerhouse she is.
She's likely the secret weapon the team needs to take down Thanos.
GOOSE COUGHS UP A HAIRBALL
The post-credits scene is a short one, but it does explain how Shield ends up with the Tesseract. In the film, it's revealed that Goose the cat is actually an alien whose mouth can extend and sprout tentacles. Goose can eat anything and anyone bigger than it, and it the final minutes of the film the feline extraterrestrial consumes the Tesseract.
After the threat of the film is thwarted, Fury is seen in his office with Goose. Agent Coulson walks in and says it's a shame that the Tesseract wasn't recovered in the scrum, which Fury responds by looking at his cat and saying "I'm sure it'll turn up."
The post-credits scene shows Goose in an empty office hopping on top of Fury's desk and gag out the Tesseract like a hairball.
Captain Marvel is in theaters now.
