Casey Anthony's father, George Anthony, was badly injured in a car crash on Saturday, authorities told WFTV.

Anthony, 67, reportedly drove off I-4 westbound in Daytona Beach and flipped his wife's 1999 Toyota 4Runner at around 3 p.m. on Saturday, a spokesperson from The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed to Newsweek. The Florida Highway Patrol told the news station Anthony suffered "incapacitating injuries." The 67-year-old was flown to Halifax Medical Center, WFTV reported.

Troopers told WFTV that Anthony's vehicle was only involved in the crash and was the only person in the vehicle at the time. It remains unclear why Anthony drove off the highway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol report obtained by the WFTV. The report stated that Anthony could not remember what happened before he crashed, the news station reported.

Anthony and his family gained national attention after his daughter, Casey, was acquitted of the murder of her three-year-old daughter, Caylee, in 2011. The toddler was last seen in June 2008 and Anthony's wife, Cindy, reported her missing a month later. Casey was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and told authorities that the babysitter had taken Caylee. The three-year-old's remains were found in December 2008 by a utility worker close to where the Anthonys lived in Orlando, Florida.

Anthony and his wife, Cynthia, did an interview last year for Crime Watch Daily, claiming that Casey is mentally ill and may have blacked out during a seizure when Caylee died.

"I think Casey is mentally ill. I really do," Cynthia told Crime Watch Daily host Chris Hansen at the time, adding that after one seizure, "she didn't remember anything. She had wet the bed. I told her. I had to tell her everything that had happened to her."

Anthony had also briefly discussed his suicide attempt because he felt guilty about Caylee's death.

"I didn't feel I did enough to go find her," Anthony said during the interview. "I wanted to be with her. Even to this day, I feel she should be here, not me."

Anthony said that he and Casey have not been close since Caylee's death, and said he did not want to see her.

"Stay away. Stay away from me," he said. "If she wants to have a relationship again with her mom, she's got a lot of explaining to do, but I don't want to hear another word from her. I don't want to see her."
