Céline Dion is a busy woman. As she continues to perform with her Las Vegas concert residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the iconic songstress is slated to expand her career endeavors by launching a gender-neutral clothing line for children.
Dion, 50, took to her social media accounts to share how the "grand unveiling" of her planned line is slated to debut Wednesday. The announcement was accompanied by a strange video advertisement, which depicted the singer partaking in some illegal activities that would lead to her arrest.
"It's okay, it's okay. I'm Céline Dion," Dion said in the video advertisement as she gets aggressively tackled and then handcuffed by security.
The ad showcased the events that led to her arrest. In the video, she was spotted entering a room in a hospital where babies were being held. All the infants were dressed in either blue or pink clothing, which are colors used to reflect a child's gender. Dion then explained why it's time to begin the shift toward allowing children to dress in clothing that doesn't confine gender.
"Our children, they are not really our children as we are all links in a never-ending chain that is life," she said. "For us, they are everything. But in reality, we are only a fraction of their universe."
Dion then blows on magical dust, which changed the babies clothing from their former pink and blue outfits to gender-neutral pieces from her upcoming line. Security subsequently appeared and noticed what she'd done. To this, she said: "I can't believe they called security. I'm not spending a night in jail."
To launch her children's clothing line, Dion partnered with Nununu—a brand that aims to produce "alternative to traditional" attire for babies and young children—for a line dubbed CELINUNUNU. The upcoming collection intends to break gender stereotypes and allow for children to express themselves freely through their clothing.
"CELINUNUNU liberates children from the traditional roles of boy/ girl, and enables younger people to grow on values of equality with the freedom strengthen their own power of personality based on mutual respect," the collection's website reads.
This isn't Dion's first dive into the fashion world. In 2017, the "My Heart Will Go On" singer launched the Celine Dion Collection at Nordstrom. The line features an assortment of handbags and other accessories. However, she explained why she was interested in teaming up with Nununu to develop a line catered to children's clothing.
"I've always loved Nununu and what they represent," Dion tweeted Tuesday. "Partnering with them to encourage a dialogue of equality and possibility makes so much sense."
Gender-neutral clothing lines are on the rise as of late, even among high profile brands. Abercrombie Kids, for one, debuted a line of this caliber in January. Before this, Target hopped on the trend in 2017 after dropping popular lines like Merona and Mossimo from its stores.
