Transfer News: Rivals Swoop for Chelsea's £100-Million Star, Manchester United Close in on Toby Alderweireld

With the season finished, the Cups handed out, and only the play-offs and Champions League to decide, the transfer business starts to begin.

Clubs are aiming to close the gap on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League. Some are looking to break into the so-called "top six." Some are looking to push into the top half of the table. And some, of course, are looking to avoid dropping into the bottom three.

So they will turn to the transfer market to help achieve those goals, to buy the striker to finish those many chances they create but cannot complete; or the defender to stop the constant hemorrhaging of goals last season.

But we start at the gates of the Etihad Stadium, where there are few problems for Pep Guardiola and his team—they are only looking to get stronger.

According to the Daily Star, Manchester City want Chelsea's Eden Hazard and are planning to make a £100 million bid to the West London club for the 27-year-old Belgian. Hazard is due for contract talks at Chelsea and is yet to confirm he will stay at the club.

Chelsea's beaten opponent in Saturday's FA Cup final may also be losing one of its key players. According to The Times, Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been offered a three-year contract by AC Milan. The 30-year-old's contract expires this summer so he can leave on a free.

United will look to strengthen, starting with Jose Mourinho's defense. According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur center-back Toby Alderweireld is one of United's top transfer targets this summer.

At Arsenal, Jack Wilshere is set to stay. The Daily Mirror say he has decided to turn down big offers from Everton and newly-promotes Wolves to remain at the Emirates Stadium for three more years.

And finally, Liverpool look set to miss out on Piotr Zielinski as the 24-year-old is poised to sign a new long-term deal at Napoli, according to The Sun.
