Chloë Sevigny is facing backlash online with her remarks about dogs, slamming her "unsettling" and "disturbing" comments.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the actress said "athleisure and dogs" are taking over New York City.
"Everybody's in Lululemon and has a f****** dog and it's driving me crazy," the 49-year-old said when asked her thoughts on the city's ever-rising cost of living. "I'm sorry, dog lovers. There are too many of you."
Speaking of her youth partying on New York's club scene, Sevingy hopes "there are places for people to go when they want to."
"I miss the megaclubs and the accessibility," she said. "I would like to know that they were there [in Manhattan] and not in Ridgewood, which seems very far."
Sevigny's comments divided opinions online, with many social media users slamming the Golden Globe winner.
"What's her problem with people owning dogs?" asked Tee_North.
@xrrant agreed, writing: "Bad take babe. You don't have to have one but like... chill."
"The lack of empathy towards animals is so unsettling and disturbing," said Rina Rose.
"Chloe was a privileged Connecticut teen who skipped school to hang out in Manhattan in the 90s. Why is she acting like she gets any opinion on the state of Manhattan?" wrote Adam Ellis.
"Hating dogs is cringe soymilk drinking behavior," commented tiny mik, while Johnny said, "maybe she should do something about" the city's gentrifrication if it bothers her so much.
However, others users applauded the American Psycho star, with luca writing: "I totally agree with chloë sevigny."
"So glad someone said it," commented Khalil.
"This is the CITY GET A F****** CAT!" said Gabri.
"She's 100% right. I'm constantly walking with head down, checking for poop, because people want dogs, but don't want to clean their poop off the sidewalks," commented @nikkibey4life.
"Ever since the 2020 lockdown the amount of new pet parents has overwhelmed the vet industry," said Tin. "It's a real issue [for real]."

Currently starring in Ryan Murphy's FX series Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, Sevingy also broke down her three decade-career with Rolling Stone.
The 1990's "It" girl made a name for herself starring in mostly experimental and independent films, such as Kids (1995) Julien Donkey-Boy (1999) the Steve Buscemi-directed Gummo (1997) and Boys Don't Cry (2000), which landed her an Oscar nomination.
In recent years, Sevingy has primarily focused on TV projects, becoming somewhat of a scream queen. She played a mental health patient in American Horror Story: Asylum, and starred as the titular character in the 2018 thriller Lizzie, about the life of suspected 1800's axe murderer Lizzie Borden.
She recently guest-starred in long-time pal Natasha Lyonne's murder mystery Poker Face, and played Lynn Roy in the 2022 true-crime series The Girl From Plainville.
Sevingy is currently starring in Ryan Murphy's FX limited series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, playing 1950's actress and socialite C.Z. Guest.
