Ciara Twerking Video Overshadowed by Fuel Costs: 'The Gas Prices'

Ciara's attempt to promote her new single "J.U.M.P." with a steamy gas station TikTok twerk is sparking a conversation about gas prices.

The "Goodies" hitmaker is accompanied by three dancers in the video, all of whom are dancing in shorts around a silver Ford Bronco SUV. Ciara's husband, quarterback Russell Wilson, was recently traded to the Denver Broncos.

A clip from the song, which is the lead offering from her upcoming album, plays in the background.

The video has 300,000 likes and more than 2.5 million views.

But most of the top comments are about the visible gas prices, which are higher than the "1, 2 Step" singer's hemline.

In the background of the video, a Shell sign is visible with gas prices listed at $6.69, $6.89 and $6.99 per gallon. Neon signs for Wendy's and Wetzel's Pretzels round out the scene.

"Gas prices is all I seen," commenter prestonb1993 wrote, garnering 17,000 likes. "THE GAS PRICES," wrote llaaciii___.

One user, pheonix_senju, asked how to avoid the prices. "where y'all at so I don't go?" they commented.

"Y'all should've picked a different location because all I see is gas is almost $7," wrote ryans_truth_. "I had to scroll because I do not claim this negativity."

And reemontheloose expressed concerned for Ciara's own pocketbook, asking, "why is the car running????? look at the gas prices behind y'all!!!!"

Gas prices have been skyrocketing due to a perfect storm of inflation, ongoing COVID-19-related supply chain issues, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Americans were concerned in mid-May when fuel surged to $4.49-a-gallon and hoped things would settle down by June.

However, Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone without respite from increasing fuel charges. President Joe Biden is experiencing backlash for attributing the prices to an "incredible transition" from fossil fuel reliance to cleaner forms of energy.

"It's bad," he said. "The price of gas at the pump is something that I've told, you've heard me say before would be a matter of great discussion at my kitchen table when I was a kid growing up. It's affecting a lot of families."

Just a few days ago, European Union leaders officially banned 90 percent of crude oil imports from Russia, in a set of restrictions that will roll out over the rest of this year

Since the announcement, markets have already seen quite significant increase in petroleum prices, which directly affects prices at the pumps, as the higher purchasing and refining costs are inevitably passed onto the end user.

According to the AAA last week, the current average gas price per gallon at U.S. pumps is $4.622 (regular) and $4.997 (mid grade). Data on the AAA's website, taken from the Energy Information Administration, revealed total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 500,000 barrels to 219.7 million barrels in the previous seven days.
