These are the best tequilas for Cinco de Mayo 2022. Whether you are looking for something to sip, shoot or simply the best tequila for margaritas, we have you covered—thanks to our extensive sampling.
We also offer up excellent mezcal options, ingredients for your margaritas, lime lager and some ready-to-drink (RTD) margaritas in cans. Whether you are a mixologist, or simply prefer to open the fridge, we share your best options for Cinco de Mayo and all year long.
If you are in New York City or Los Angeles, make sure to check out the Cointreau Margarita Mobile—the label's partnership effort with Uber Eats. This includes $45 Margarita Cocktail Kits with Cointreau, trucks around both cities and a Cointreau Margarita Mobile in Domino Park, in Brooklyn, New York, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 5.
You can find these at local liquor stores, in your favorite bars and restaurants, as well as through many delivery services. Prices vary by location.
Dos Hombres Mezcal
While you might associate Cinco de Mayo celebrations with tequila, mezcal is a fantastic option. Dos Hombres is my new favorite mezcal. It delivers a delicious mix of citrus and smoke with an excellent mouthfeel. It isn't super smoky like many mezcals, making it more accessible to share. Sip it with ice for the full experience, or craft a cocktail. You might know the owners of Dos Hombres, Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston, from their time on Breaking Bad. You can find this for around $50 in most areas.
Tanteo Tequila
Tanteo tequila is available in a Blanco and Jalapeno, both of which are enjoyable. Blanco includes citrus and pepper notes to start and then fades to an agave that makes this something you can sip or use to build out an excellent margarita. The Tanteo Jalapeno tequila is unmistakably spicy from its scent and the first sip. It delivers an encompassing heat but stops short of being overwhelming. Grab this and mix a piquant margarita at home. You can find Tanteo tequila for around $39.99 at most retailers.
Patrón Silver and Reposado
Patrón is perhaps one of the most well-known tequila brands, and if you are looking for tasty options, the Patrón Silver and Patrón Reposado are perfect choices. I prefer to use the Silver in a margarita, but you can also sip it and enjoy its agave and white pepper flavors. The Patrón Reposado is more appropriate for a standalone drink, with upfront pepper and agave that fades to sweetness after you swallow. Both Silver and Reposado are excellent for drinking or mixing. You can find these for around $37.99 and $56.99 near you.
Cincoro Tequila
Cincoro Tequila is often referred to as Michael Jordan's tequila, and it is shockingly good. It's available in four expressions. I tasted the Cincoro Anejo, which is aged for one to three years. This adds a caramel color and flavor to the tequila. The Cincoro Anejo is delicious for sipping and is an option whiskey drinkers will appreciate. It is a little on the sweeter side, but it's not over-the-top. You can also use it as the base for a margarita, old-fashioned or another cocktail. The bottle, designed by Mark Smith, who conceived some of Jordan's shoes, towers over everything else in our collection. Expect to pay around $129.99 for Cincoro Anejo.
Cutwater Canned Cocktails
Cutwater Canned Cocktails include several margarita options that are perfect for anyone looking for a simple way to celebrate. Available in five flavors—lime, pineapple, peach, mango and strawberry—there is one for everyone. Each option is packed with flavor and makes it easy to take margaritas with you or to grab one from the fridge without mixing on your own. You can buy in a 4-pack for around $13.99.
Cazadores Spicy Margaritas
If you are looking for a 'spicy marg' in a can, then the Cazadores Spicy Margaritas are exactly what you need. These slim cans pack a punch and would be great with salt or sugar right on their rim. Flavorful and piquant without being overwhelming, this is a must-have to kick up your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Find it at a local retailer for around $13.99 for a 4-pack.
Los Arango Tequila Blanco
The Los Arango Tequila Blanco is a wonderful bottle of tequila that starts smooth and with citrus before delivering a tongue-tingling white-pepper taste and a finish that lingers. It is a tequila that is best enjoyed as a base for one of the many cocktails that Los Arango shares. You can find this for around $40 at a retailer near you.
Grand Marnier
Grand Marnier is a French liqueur that is cognac based. You can rely on this to make a delicious fresh margarita. Use it in place of Cointreau or combine the two for a Cadillac Margarita. Check out this Grand Marnier Margarita recipe at Reserve Bar, a popular online liquor delivery service, to get started. Find a bottle at a local retailer for around $30.
Braxton Brewing Company Garage Beer Lime
If you are looking for a beer to crack open in celebration of Cinco de Mayo, Braxton Brewing Company Garage Beer Lime is a citrusy lager that pairs up well with tacos and other celebratory foods. It's also a great addition to our garage fridge for easy access during a weekend project or yard work. Find it at a retailer near you for around $10.99 for a 6-pack.
Cutwater Tequila Blanco
Cutwater Tequila Blanco is an excellent option. It offers a mix of peppery citrus and vanilla flavors that is smooth enough to sip but also a really affordable base for all of your Cinco de Mayo cocktail creations. Check out the Cutwater Reposado, which is also a superb choice if you prefer your tequila aged a little. Find at a retailer near you for around $30.
