CNN Analyst Accuses Black Fox Nation Host of White Privilege

CNN legal analyst Areva Martin mistakenly accused Fox Nation host David Webb, who is black, of benefitting from white privilege during a guest appperance on his SiriusXM radio show.

Martin, a civil rights attorney, and Webb, who also hosts Fox Nation's Reality Check, were discussing whether race was a factor in applying for jobs. Webb described his own career history and said he thought his talent and experience were greater factors than the color of his skin.

"Well, David, that's a whole 'nother long conversation about white privilege—the things that you ahve the privilege of doing that people of color don't have the privilege of," Martin said.

Webb asked how it was possible that he could benefit from white privilege, and Martin replied, "By virtue of being a white male."

"Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should've been better prepped," Webb said. "I'm black. How do I have the privilege of white privilege?"

Martin apologized multiple times for the error and said she had been given incorrect information by her preparation team, but Webb criticized Martin for the assumption that he was white.

"You're talking to a black man...who started out in rock radio in Boston, who crossed the paths into hip-hop, rebuilding one of the greatest black stations in America and went on to work at Fox News where I'm told apparently blacks aren't supposed to work, but yet, you come with this assumption and you go to white privilege," Webb said. "That's actually insulting."

Webb also joked about the interview in a tweet. "Just two guys showing their #WhitePrivelege on @SiriusXMPatriot," he wrote.
