Two big-time college football programs trending in different directions will collide Saturday -- it's Florida State at No. 3 Notre Dame.

No. 3 Notre Dame (9-0) is in prime position to make this year's College Football Playoff. All the Fighting Irish have to do is win out. The Irish have run the table this year, and a game against Syracuse at Yankee Stadium next week looks like the only potential stumbling block.

Enter the Florida State Seminoles (4-5, 2-5 in ACC), who need two more wins to become bowl eligible. The Noles would love nothing more than to upset the Irish to not only dash Notre Dame's playoff hopes, but it would shake up college football's top 10.

It's Senior Night and the final home game of the season for Notre Dame, who will wear green jerseys with their gold pants Saturday night.

FSU's defensive front seven vs. Notre Dame backfield

This game looked to be prime blowout material before Notre Dame announced quarterback Ian Book would miss the game. Now, Brandon Wimbush, the starter going into the season, will start against a Noles team that looks better now than it did in September.

Sure, Florida State lost its last two games, but they were to No. 2 Clemson and No. 14 N.C. State. And Notre Dame hasn't exactly sparkled in some of its wins this year, most notable at home against Pitt and last week they struggled in a win over Northwestern.

If Florida State can keep Notre Dame's offense off the field and get this game close into the fourth quarter, then one of the season's major upsets could happen.

Prediction:

"I believe FSU's defense is far better than the product it has put on the field over the last seven quarters.

I also believe that the ND offense will not run nearly as efficiently with Wimbush at the helm.

Both of those factors keep the game at least somewhat closer than FSU's last couple games, but I don't believe that the FSU offense can generate nearly enough production to make the Fighting Irish have to truly sweat it out.

Give me a 27-14 Notre Dame win."
