Cynthia told Newsweek: "My husband has been in the process of re-doing the lawn for several weeks. He's been nose-deep in research. He's become extremely passionate about this project and has sent samples of our soil to a company that analyzes it. They outlined what nutrients the soil is lacking so you can plan accordingly when preparing the ground. For months, he's been preparing the ground for this."

As part of the process, Cynthia's husband has killed off the grass—and any weeds—and now has plants to dethatch and plug the ground. Following this, he'll level the ground out and plant new grass seeds in the fall.

With yellow dead grass out in front of their home, Cynthia had an idea. "I was coming home from the grocery store, driving back to our house, and I could see all the green lawns passing by. All of a sudden, our home came into view. Against our neighbor's green lawns, our lawn stuck out like a sore thumb," she explained.

Noticing how her yard stuck out among the others, Cynthia had an idea and created the throwback "grass loading" sign which has delighted viewers on Reddit.

Cynthia says that she doesn't usually worry about what others think but did feel worried that people may assume they didn't care about their home.

The couple are not the only people to worry about the appearance of their yard. In a survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Yard Force, 38 percent of American homeowners said they were striving to make their yard the best on the block.

Asking 2,000 homeowners, the study revealed that we can get pretty competitive over our front yards, with the average person prepared to spend over $900 if it meant their outdoor space would automatically be the finest in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, 77 percent of respondents said that they feel pressure to keep their yard in perfect condition.

The fun sign has delighted internet users who headed to the comments to share their thoughts, with many even asking for a copy of the design to place in their own yard.

"This is the greatest sign I've ever seen," said one Redditor, while another commenter joked: "Careful, there could be malware if you're downloading the most recent patch of grass."

"Awesome," said another reply. "Can I steal this idea when I overseed this autumn?"

Another Redditor said: "I truly hope I have neighbors like you one day."

When asked what the neighbors think, Cynthia revealed they don't know just yet.

"We just moved here in June 2021," she explained. "Neither of us are social butterflies. We're not great at walking up to strangers and starting a conversation. So, in a subtle way, I think the humor of the sign was our way of showing some personality to our neighbors. I hope they liked it."
