Video: Two Large Cruise Ships Collide as One Departs Port—'No, no, no!'

Two large cruise ships collided in a South American port on Wednesday—and the incident was captured on camera by alarmed onlookers.

The 2,500-capacity vessels—which both belong to the global cruise line MSC—crashed as one was attempting to leave Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, the Daily Mirror reported.

In the footage, the 960-foot MSC Orchestra can be seen veering into its sister ship, MSC Poesia, causing debris to fall into the water and creating a screeching noise as it scraped past.

One bystander in the clip could be heard repeatedly saying," No, no, no" as the incident unfolded. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured during the collision, although the Orchestra did sustain some minor damage.

The Daily Mail reported that the captain of the Orchestra lost control as it tried to leave the port but managed to swerve just in time, thus avoiding a more serious collision.

"On February 20, 2019, MSC Orchestra undocked to leave the Port of Buenos Aires, Argentina," the company said in a statement provided to the Mail. "Due to reasons we are still investigating, the ship deviated from its course while maneuvering out of the port and lightly grazed the forward part of MSC Poesia, which was docked alongside."

'While this may have been noticed by some passengers, there was never any risk for guests or crew on board, and there was no impact for the environment," the statement continued.

Nevertheless, the company saw fit to delay the departure of the Orchestra'seight-night cruise, which stops in Brazil and Uruguay, but it was eventually cleared to sail, albeit with a slightly altered itinerary.

"As a result of this graze and for operational reasons, we have adjusted the itinerary of MSC Orchestra," the statement read. "Yesterday, the ship made a first port call in Punta del Este in Uruguay.

"While Guests had the opportunity to visit the city and enjoy some free time ashore, the ship received some technical maintenance and minor repairs," it read. "In addition, the port call in Buzios, Brazil, will be substituted with a port call in Itajaì."

The itinerary of the Poesia was not affected, and the ship left the port of Buenos Aires as scheduled.

MSC Cruises was founded in Naples, Italy, in 1960, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. It is the fourth-largest cruise company, operating across multiple continents.
