Dad Accidentally Trains Daughter to 'Sit' After Going Walking With the Dog

One couple who trained their dog to sit if someone else walked past them have learned that this behavior has trickled down to someone else in the family.

In a March 3 TikTok video posted by user @freddieandemmie, the husband is walking down the path with the couple's silver Labrador retriever Freddie in one hand and their daughter Emmie pulling the wagon next to him. Then all three halt on the walking path.

It isn't unusual for Freddie to stop as he was trained to sit while people walk past him, but now on the walks, the daughter joins Freddie. The dad pulls on the dog's leash to signal it is time to sit and allow the person to pass, and, right on cue, the daughter follows the direction.

Emmie stops and crouches down. She doesn't even wait to follow Freddie's actions as she sits down before he does. She clearly mastered this training and, like Freddie, deserves a treat, too.

Freddie has been with Emmie ever since she was 8 months old. The mother Brittany told Newsweek via TikTok that the dog and the little girl are true best friends. While it seems like Emmie is following Freddie's lead in this video, it's typically the other way around, Brittany said.

"Other than her pretending to sniff everything like he does, it's more so the things she makes HIM do with her," Brittany said. "They play hide and seek, they watch TV together, they chase each other in our backyard, etcetera."

Video Reactions

The TikTok video had received over 2.5 million views, more than 71,500 likes, and 214 comments as of Tuesday. People applauded the couple for training their dog to sit while on walks, while others couldn't stop laughing at what their daughter did.

"This may be odd if she's doing it in her 30s but as of now, good job!!" commented one viewer.

Some parents shared similar experiences, with one writing: "My son used to sit for treats with our dog."

Another added: "When I was a dog walker, I'd take my kid who was 4 at the time. The dogs would sit at crosswalks so my kid would too."

"My daughter used to howl at sirens because the dog did," posted a third user.
