There's nothing like family support when entering the dating scene, even if that support comes with a side of dad humor.
A TikTok video posted by Jasmine Barker (@youcantparktheresir1) was sent to her by her father, Mark, while she was on a date. Mark sends her well-wishes, then ends with some first-date advice channeled through the song "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" by Jermaine Stewart.
Since it was posted last week, the clip has garnered over 550,000 views and nearly 1,000 commenters, many of whom appreciated the dad's gesture.
"Hope you're having a nice date, hope he's treating you OK," Mark said in the video. "Now, just a tip, though—obviously early days with you two, but remember..." he trailed off, increasing the volume on Stewart's song to highlight the song's title line: "We don't have to take our clothes off to have a good time."
Barker, 20, told Newsweek that she and her dad's close relationship paved the way for the creation of the video, as well as its success on social media.
"I told my dad over the phone about the date, as I was at university at the time," she said. "I was really excited for the date, as we had to wait a while due to the distance [between us]. My dad was really happy for me."
Barker said that it was actually her date who gave her the idea to post Mark's video on TikTok. "He found it hilarious," she said.
Barker's father was also delighted at the response and the attention it has received online.
"My dad does know how successful the video has been," she said. "He is very happy he has made lots of people laugh, despite not expecting the attention it's so far got."
Reflecting on her date, Barker said that it went "amazingly" well and "couldn't have gone better," adding that it was worth the wait. Since then, the couple have gone on two more dates, indicating the beginning of a possibly promising connection.
Barker's video points to a heartwarming connection between her and her father and shows how the right support can brighten the most nerve-racking situations.
"We have such a close relationship," Barker said. "I consider him my hero."
So does much of viewership. After seeing Mark's potential for content creation, commenters were begging for more.
"Your dad needs to make a TikTok account," @leigh12689 wrote. "His vibe is brilliant, I [would] definitely follow him."
Barker agreed, replying: "He needs to give the people what they want!"
