Dak Prescott One of Aaron Rodgers' 'Favorite Quarterbacks' to Watch

Dak Prescott's standout play of late has Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy comparing the quarterback's performance to the great stretches he witnessed Aaron Rodgers have during their time together with the Green Bay Packers.

And Rodgers, now a New York Jet, seems good with that.

Prescott threw for 331 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-10 win over the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving. Rodgers joined The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday to address a variety of topics, including the Cowboys signal-caller who has turned into one of his favorite players to watch at the position.

"First I want to talk about Dak," said Rodgers, who noted he's had more time to watch football this year while recovering from his Achilles injury. "Because he's become one of my favorite quarterbacks to watch ... I just love that he's really playing the position. And what I mean by that is I'm watching him make [protection adjustments] against these crazy looks and picking things up. I'm watching him bring the tight end back in against the zero pressure and throw an old concept we used to run [in Green Bay] for a touchdown to CeeDee Lamb in the back of the end zone. I'm watching him use cadence beautifully.

"The last four or five weeks, I've gotten to see more of their games. I just want to say, he's playing the position in a really impressive way."

The numbers certainly back up the four-time MVP's praise of Prescott. Over the last five games, the two-time Pro Bowler has thrown a combined 17 touchdowns compared to only two interceptions. The Cowboys (8-3) are 4-1 during that stretch, and Prescott is throwing for 320 yards per game on average while completing more than 70 percent of his passes. According to ESPN's Bill Barnwell, Prescott has an 80.7 QBR since Week 6, while no other player in the league is above 68. Mina Kimes, also of the "Worldwide Leader," shared that the QB ranks either first or second in the NFL in a variety of QBR category splits.

Here's one more number of slightly more personal significance to Prescott—with his performance against Washington, he tied Tony Romo's franchise record with his 10th game of at least four touchdowns passes. Three have come in the last five games.

If Prescott's red-hot play continues, he will soon pass the quarterback he shared a locker room with during his first year in the league.

"Pretty cool," Prescott said of tying Romo. "I can't say I've been one to really care for numbers, but watching this team, growing up a Cowboys fan, [it's] humbling in that sense. Especially coming in and spending my rookie year with Tony. Growing up watching Tony. Understanding all the success that he has. It's pretty cool. But I want so much more than personal records."

Prescott, like so many anxious Cowboys fans around the country, is more focused on postseason success than individual accolades. And maybe this is the year both can occur in the Lone Star State.

Dallas currently sits in the NFC's top Wild Card spot since the NFC East rival Eagles (10-1) lead the division. The Cowboys, still seeking their first Super Bowl since the mid-'90s, are 2-4 in the postseason with Prescott under center. Dallas was sent home in the playoffs with losses to the San Francisco 49ers in each of the last two seasons. A rematch between the teams earlier this year resulted in a 42-10 Cowboys defeat.

Dallas is 5-1 since. But the Cowboys are about to be tested. Thursday starts a stretch with five consecutive games against teams .500 or above, with playoff positioning on the line. The way Prescott is playing lately, though, has the Cowboys feeling confident.

"[Dak has] put games together here, a series of games, that are the best of his career," team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said earlier this month on 105.3 The Fan, via The Messenger. "And in my view, right at the top of any that I've seen, is the fact that he's doing them back to back. He's really in a position where it's not only physical, but it's mental. He's really showed us all of that hard work, all of that time that's he put in and frankly, the adjustments that have been made over the past year, we're really seeing the fruits of that."

Prescott and the Cowboys will host the Seattle Seahawks (6-5) at 8:15 p.m. ET Thursday night. The game will air on Prime Video.
